I fill him in, getting distracted when his mother texts me.

Reese: Darling, Bill just mentioned that you and Jameson will both be in New York next Tuesday. Are you able to make it for Taco Tuesday?

Adeline: No, it’s the following week that we’ll both be home. I wouldn’t miss Taco Tuesday for the world.

Reese: Oh, I must have gotten it mixed up. I can’t wait to see you. We have so much to discuss about Jameson’s birthday.

Adeline: I can’t wait xx

I laugh as I eye my husband. “Is your birthday always a big affair with your mother?”

“Jesus, she goes too far. What’s she planning this year?”

“That is for me to know and for you to find out.”

Reese hasn’t told me much about her plans yet, except that it’ll be a family weekend away, including Bill. He recently finished his radiation treatment and is starting to feel less tired. Reese said that he’s looking forward to spending time with Jameson that weekend.

I didn’t take Jameson up on his offer to come clean to Bill about our marriage. I didn’t see the need. Bill wanted Jameson to find love and that’s exactly what he did.

I did suggest to Jameson that he find time in his schedule to take Bill to his radiation appointments. He ended up doing that, and in the time they spent together throughout Bill’s treatment, they discussed their shared vision for Bill’s company and made plans for Jameson to execute once he is CEO.

Jameson comes to me, moving behind me and putting his arms around me. Resting his hands on my stomach, he brings his mouth to my ear. “You and my mother will be the death of me.”

I smile as my heart sighs happily. “I thought me and Shantel would be the death of you.”

“The three of you will be.”

I place my hands over his. “You wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“That is debatable some days.”

Threading my fingers through his, I think about loving him and being loved by him.

My protector.

My lover.

My soul mate.

Jameson loves me better than I have ever been loved and I never want to go a day in my life without him by my side.

He helps me take on the world every day simply by loving me, and then he wraps me in his arms at night and tends to any wounds the day brings.

I squeeze my fingers against his. “Thank God you stole my company from me.”

His arms tighten around me as his lips press to my neck. “Why? So you can drive me crazy every damn day?”

“So I get to be loved by the best man I know.”

Because that’s what Jameson Fox is: the best man I know.

And I would let him steal anything he wanted from me if it meant he’d keep loving me.

My breath.

My heart.

My everything.
