How is this possible?

I don’t want to feel any of this with this man.

“Shantel has gone over my calendar trying to find a weekend for our honeymoon,” he says. “It looks like December is out. We’ll have to wait until January.”

I meet his gaze. “Have her check in with Vanessa. I may not have any spare weekends in January.”

He watches me silently for a long moment like he’s appraising me before finally nodding.

We turn silent after that, and I work through some emails that have come in since I left work. I try to forget that Jameson is sitting next to me, but there’s no hope of me doing that. Not when my body is so aware of him.

It’s like I’m two people at once.

The real me who hates him, and the other me who wants to sit on his lap and do filthy things to him.

Oh, good God.

No.

No, no, no.

I squeeze my eyes closed and commence praying.

I can’t recall the last time I prayed.

It seems God isn’t holding that against me. Within a few moments of my prayer going up, I receive a text that takes all my attention off Jameson.

Lara: Ian Swift is an asshole and if I ever meet him, I’m going to make him eat a bag of dicks. Dirty, unclean, old dicks that will make him choke.

Adeline: What’s he done?

I pull up Instagram and search his profile.

Lara: He posted a comment on Insta saying he’s not surprised to read the stories about your mother and sister after meeting you, and that he also wouldn’t be surprised to read similar stories about you. It’s gathered a lot of other comments from people agreeing with him.

“That fucking asshole,” I mutter to myself.

“What’s wrong?” Jameson asks, giving me his attention again.

“Nothing.” He’d just dismiss it even if I told him.

“Something is obviously bothering you and I’d rather you not take your mood to dinner. Who’s the asshole tonight?”

The me who wanted to sit on his lap and do filthy things to him a moment ago no longer runs the show. “Well, besides you, Ian Swift.”

“What’s he done now?”

“Do you really care?”

He works his jaw. “I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t.”

“He’s made a comment on social media about me and my family. It’s not flattering.”

“Ignore him.”

“I can’t just ignore this kind of stuff, Jameson. That’s not how my business works. We rely heavily on social media.”

“Have you tested that?”
