He lifts his chin at the table. “Sit. I’ll get your dinner.”

“I can get it.”

He gives me a look of pure Jameson. Frustration and impatience all rolled into one. “Sit.”

“Why can’t you just let me look after myself?”

More of that look.A whole lot more of that look. And then, he comes to me, takes hold of my hips, spins me around, and walks me to the table. Sitting me down, he orders, “If that ass leaves that chair, there will be hell to pay.”

“I hope your next wife is a real ballbuster,” I grumble as he goes back to the island.

“I don’t intend on having any more wives after you.”

I watch him get my dinner. “Really? You don’t want to marry and have a family?”

“No.”

As far as my team who did the research on him could ascertain, Jameson has never been married or engaged. The longest relationship they could find lasted a year, and he hasn’t had many that got past the three-month mark. It seems Jameson doesn’t do love.

He brings me a plate of chicken, rice, and salad, and as he puts it in front of me, he says, “I don’t need another ballbuster. Not when I’ve already had one.”

I watch him fold himself into the chair next to me. “I’ll assume you’re referring to a previous girlfriend.”

His lips quirk but he doesn’t respond to that. “How did things go with your plan?”

I eat some chicken. “I think we did well, considering what we’re working with. Douglas is apprehensive about the decision I made, but he knows it’s the only decision I will make.” I pause as I think about the question I’ve had on repeat in my head since Hudson came to me with this. “Why was Hudson digging into my company?” God help Jameson if he’s planning on stealing another company from me.

He looks at me knowingly. “Hudson handles my risk assessment and management. I asked him to keep abreast of any risks that threaten you.”

I frown. “Why?”

“Because you’re my wife.”

“I’m not your actual wife, Jameson.”

“That is true, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t protect you.” He leans in close. “And before you tell me you’re quite capable of protecting yourself, I am more than aware of that, but it doesn’t hurt to have someone else looking out for you too.”

His phone rings, and he leaves to take the call.

I watch him go, stunned at what he’s just told me.

I’m quickly pulled from thinking about him, though, because Kimberly texts me to confirm our trip to London next week. We go back and forth on that, deciding to still go ahead with it even though we’ll also be busy with the potential fallout from the statement we’ll release tomorrow about our supply chain.

I finish eating dinner and take a shower before doing a little more work and crawling into bed at midnight. I text with Natalie for five minutes when she checks in to see how I am after working all night. I’m placing my phone down from that when Jameson comes into the bedroom.

“Did you hear from your mother?” he asks as he walks toward his bathroom.

“She texted. She’s staying out tonight.” With the man she just met.

He scowls. Blink, and you’d miss it, but I see it.

He then goes into his bathroom and showers.

I lie in bed while he’s in there thinking about the sex we had today. And the promise he made me before he fucked me. The ‘renegotiation of our marriage contract’.

It’s shocking how happy I am about the new terms.

It’s also shocking how much I enjoyed him fucking me in a fitting room.
