Owen: I’ll pick you up at seven.

Charlize: It’s a shame you aren’t drinking cocktails with me right now. I would do obscene things to you if you were.

Owen: I’m already planning the obscene things you’ll do to me tomorrow.

Charlize: See, this is why I like you.

Owen: I hope it’s not the only reason.

Charlize: Stop being so good at this.

Owen: At what?

Charlize: At convincing me that I want so much more than just filthy sex with you.

Owen: I’m not stopping.

“Charles,” Poppy says, drawing my attention. “You should go. Get some ‘hiking’ in tonight. You look like you’re in heat.”

I place my phone down. “No. Sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you.” I reach for my cocktail. “We haven’t finished discussing your honeymoon.”

“Okay, so when I say that you look like you’re in heat, you do, but also, Seth just gave me the eye, so you need to go.”

I laugh as I look at Seth who is now in their kitchen with his head in the fridge. “He’s got his head in the fridge, Pop. I think you’re confusing his search for food for wanting sex.”

She gives me a pointed look. “Did I or did I not just explain these things to you?‘Honey, what do we have to eat?’translates to‘Babe, come sit on my face.’Honestly, we need to schedule in some lessons. You have a lot to learn about men.”

I slide off my stool. It’s truly shocking how easy I am to persuade to go and see Owen.

I say goodbye to Seth, hug Poppy, and find my way to a taxi after Seth insists I don’t walk to Owen’s in my inebriated state. They don’t live far from him, but I do agree that I’m perhaps a little too tipsy to walk.

I don’t let Owen know I’m coming, so I hope he’s home, and that he’s not busy. He told me earlier that he was planning a quiet night in, but plans can change.

The great news is that heishome.

The bad news is that I stumble when I step out of his elevator into his foyer and show him just how intoxicated I am.

He catches me, concern etched into his face. “Did you walk here from Seth’s?”

I grip his shirt, my eyes zeroing in on all those buttons that aren’t done up. We have a new record tonight. There must be at least four buttons undone. “No, he wouldn’t let me walk.” I narrow my eyes at the tanned skin on his chest before bringing my hands to the next button that needs to taste freedom.

Owen chuckles, placing his hand over mine. “I hate to break it to you, but we’re going to have to take a rain check. Bradford is here.”

I pout. “Remind me to have words with him for ruining all my fun.” I let him go so I can get back in the elevator. “Maybe you should pick me up later than seven tomorrow. I may need to sleep these cocktails off.”

He takes hold of my hand. “You’re not leaving. Come and eat with us.”

Without waiting for my response, he guides me into his kitchen where Bradford is sitting on a stool at the marble island.

Owen’s kitchen is gorgeous. It’s large and open, decorated in white, gray, and black with hints of gold throughout. The color scheme along with the marble creates a striking and elegant space. And while I don’t often spend a lot of time cooking, I would cook in this kitchen.

“Charlize,” Bradford says after he takes a sip of the whiskey he’s holding. “This is an unexpected pleasure.”

I slide onto the stool next to him, my movements not graceful at all thanks to the alcohol I’ve consumed. “The pleasure is not mine, Bradford. I’d be hiking with Owen right now if you weren’t here.”

Bradford lifts a brow. “Hiking, huh?”

I give him a very serious look. “Yes. Hiking.”
