I have the outfits.

I have the man who is doing everything he can to show me how much he wants me.

I don’t know if I can move to California.

A text comes through from my mom as I’m contemplating all this.

Mom: Is it Owen North?

Charlize: Who told you that?

Mom: So, it is?

Charlize: Yes, but you can’t tell anyone.

Mom: It’s hardly a secret, Charlize. You were seen with him at Poppy’s wedding.

Charlize: Okay, but please don’t tell anyone. Not until we do.

Mom: I want you to bring him to dinner.

Charlize: Not yet. It’s still early.

Mom: Well, soon.

Charlize: Yes, soon.

Mom: Any news on an emcee yet?

Charlize: I’m still working on it, but yes, we’ll have one soon!!!

I add all those exclamation marks because they feel as jittery as I do right now.

A job in California.

A mother who wants to meet the man I’m seeing so she can try to persuade him to marry me.

An emcee I still haven’t found.

It’s all a little too much.

The cat life is looking better every hour.

My last dayat North Management is uneventful.

That is, until four p.m. rolls around and Owen decides to really shake things up.

I’m on my way to my desk after just having come back up in the elevator from getting a coffee downstairs. I’m minding my own business, when a strong hand comes around my waist and pulls me into the boardroom.

I’m so startled that I almost spill coffee all over myself.

Owen saves it, though, taking it from me and placing it on the boardroom table. That’s right before he puts his hands all over me, taking hold of my hips, and directingmeto the table.

“I’ve been thinking about you all day,” he rasps, his hands making their way down my dress, bunching it up as he goes.

“Owen,” I say, but he silences me with a kiss before I can complete that sentence.
