I slow down as I watch him watch me.

My brain might be imploring me to hurry up and leave, but my body and soul are drawn to Owen. I move into him and place a hand to his chest. Smiling up at him, I say, “Thank you for last night. I don’t like weddings, but I won’t ever forget Poppy’s wedding. And not just because it was Poppy’s.” I pull his mouth down to mine so I can brush my lips over his one last time.

I know I’ve made a mistake the second our mouths come together. That connection between us that was undeniable last night is still very much the same today. I only intended on a quick kiss. A goodbye kiss. However, this chemistry between us demands more than quick. It won’t settle for fast.

Owen slides one hand into my hair and one around my waist, growling deeply into the kiss, and waking my desire up all over again.

I lose myself in him.

I forget my mission to escape the hotel as fast as possible.

I kiss him back with the same passion he’s kissing me.

It’s the elevator from last night all over again.

For these moments, we exist in a world that only the two of us are in.

A world I don’t want to leave.

When he ends the kiss, I stare at him breathlessly. I have so many words for him, but none find their way out of my mouth.

“Have dinner with me tonight,” he says, not letting me go.

“I can’t. I already have dinner plans.” It’s the truth. Dylan and I have plans.

Owen’s eyes search mine. “Tomorrow night, then.”

Kissing him goodbye was abigmistake.

“I told you last night I don’t date, and I meant it, Owen.”

He keeps me in his arms. “I’m not the kind of man who walks away from what I want, Charlize.”

I stand firm even though Owen’s determination and confidence is working against that. “I imagine you aren’t, but that doesn’t change the fact I’m not looking for a relationship.”

He watches me thoughtfully for a few moments before finally bringing his mouth to my ear and murmuring, “This isn’t finished between us. I’ve still got a million things to discover about you.”

With that, he lets me go.

He has no idea what his words do to me. He simply steps back and watches as I gather my wits. He stands in front of me, still half freaking naked, and looks at me with intent and desire that sends chaos through my veins. Chaos that causes me to clutch my shoes and purse close before exiting his hotel suite without another word.

On my way out, I swipe the hotel key card that Owen placed on the entryway table last night. It’s not weird at all that I’m stealing it. I mean, I’m leaving my underwear behind in my haste to leave. I feel like this is a fair swap.

Owen does not have a million things still to discover about me, but if he wants to know one more thing, then it can be this: I do odd things like swiping the hotel key cards of men I want to remember.

This ismost definitelyfinished between us.

However, Owen will be the one-night stand I never forget.

Owen

Irake my fingers through my hair and stare at Julian, my Co-Chief Investment Officer. “You’re fucking kidding, right?”

His lips flatten and he pulls a face. The kind of face that tells me he’s not fucking kidding. “Sorry, Owen. I wish I were. But he’s effectively wiped twenty mil off our bottom line.”

I don’t waste time mulling over my choices. As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one to be made here. “Get rid of him and find us a new analyst. And have Maxwell take over his work in the meantime.”
