“No, I’m helping. Can you please email me all the information on the gala?”

Nate looks at me. “We can put our heads together.”

I smile at my brother. While hecanbe an arrogant ass at times, I know he thinks I can do anything I put my mind to. I also know he doesn’t believe I need a man to help me make it through life. Nate is firmly in thecut the damn pants in halfcamp.

“I would love that,” I say.

He nods and looks at Mom. “Leave it with us. We’ll have some names for you soon.”

“And don’t forget to email me that information,” I say, making a note to hound Mom until she sends it.

I arrive home just after 9:00 p.m. to a text from Poppy. She’s been messaging me every night while on her honeymoon.

Poppy: I miss you.

I smile as I curl up on Dylan’s sofa and reply to her.

Charlize: Of course, you do. I’m very missable. But tell me you’re getting all the sex still.

Poppy: Of course, I am. My husband knows what’s good for him.

Charlize: How many more centuries do you think it will take for full equality to exist between men and women?

Poppy: Charles, you know I live for your questions, but that’s the kind of question that requires at least a night and a few bottles of wine to get into. Also, I’m three orgasms into this night. I don’t want to ruin my happy buzz by thinking about inequality.

Charlize: I took a massive step back in life tonight, Pop.

Poppy: How?

Charlize: I offered to help my mother with one of her galas.

Poppy: How is that a step back?

Charlize: Ugh, you know how I feel about these galas and the socialite ladder Mom climbs with them.

Poppy: I’ve told you, think about it as philanthropy. We need philanthropists.

Charlize: I know, but still. There’s a certain amount of “look at me” she does with her friends. She’s always so fucking concerned about her social standing.

Poppy: You need to get laid. How many more days until your ban is lifted?

Charlize: TOO MANY. And now we have London to get through.

Poppy: Maybe his dick will just accidentally fall in you. Accidents happen, you know.

Poppy: Oh, I have to go. Seth is giving me the eye.

Charlize: OMG since when do you speak like that?

Poppy: I’m now a married woman. We speak differently. Goodnight, Charles x

Charlize: Night, Pop x

I love seeing my cousin so happy. She’s had to wade through a lot of men to find her happy every after. I can’t count on two hands the number of times we’ve devoured ice-cream late at night while crying our way through her messy breakups.

I’m remembering some of these nights while brushing my teeth fifteen minutes later when another text comes through. Figuring it’s probably Dylan telling me he’s staying late at his studio, I snatch my phone up to send a reply. The name blaring from my phone stops me in my tracks.

Owen: I’ll pick you up at eleven tomorrow morning.
