I place the ribbon on my lap and remove the wrapping.

It’s a shoebox.

A cream shoebox that has “B&K” embossed in gold on the lid.

My butterflies are going wild now.

I look at him and every inch of my skin blazes with anticipation at what I see in his eyes.

Love.

So.Much.Love.

“You bought me shoes with sugar on them?”

He takes the lid off the box and I almost stop breathing when I see what’s inside.

The most perfect glass slippers.

I reach in and take one of the shoes in my hand, admiring, adoring, the diamonds that are layered from toe to heel, the pointy toe, the spike heel, and the cluster of large clear crystals affixed to the top just above the point.

He leans in close, bringing his divine scent with him and driving me a little bit wilder when I would have thought that impossible. He cups my cheek and kisses me, taking all the time in the world to show me without words just how much he loves me. His tongue slides over mine and I almost forget we’re in a carriage in a park. Iwantto forget that so I can slide onto his lap and get even closer to him. I will never get close enough to this man.

When he ends the kiss, he keeps hold of my cheek and stares into my eyes. I’m breathless as we escape into this moment together. I think I couldlivein this moment.

Finally, he says, “Will you put those glass slippers on and marry me, Kristen?”

I would crawl across glass to marry this man. Putting these shoes on to marry him would be my greatest privilege.

“Yes,” I breathe.

He still doesn’t let me go. “Today.”

I stare at him. “You want to get married again today?”

“No, wearegetting married again today.” At my confused expression, he lets my cheek go and says, “We’re on our way to meet the girls. They’ll help you get ready so you can marry me this afternoon.”

I blink. “I don’t have a dress.”

“Yes, you do. Jenna and Adeline designed it. It’s the only reason why this wedding didn’t take place months ago. I had to wait for the fabric or the lace or something to arrive from Paris or Italy or somewhere.”

His clear frustration at being hindered makes me laugh. I place my hand to his cheek. “Look at you getting good at being patient.”This man.“Where are we getting married?”

“In our ballroom.”

“And there will be donuts?”

He smiles and this one is spread right across his face. “Yes, there will be many donuts. You don’t think I’d plan your wedding and not have sugar for you, do you?”

“Our wedding,” I correct him.

“Our wedding.”

I never imagined the day I’d be okay with not planning my own wedding, but that day is today. And I can’t wait to see what Bradford has planned for us.

I glance down at my Cinderella shoes. “Will you carry me to bed on your back after you marry me?”

He eyes the shoes. “It was my stipulation when I ordered the shoes. The heel had to be so high that you would beg me to put you on my back.”
