“No, we’ve made it through our mess. Although, when I get hold of the person who sent me that text, thatwill get fucking messy. But I mean extricating myself from Cecelia. The party won’t like it and she won’t take it well.”

“I know. And I know I’m being selfish here, wanting you to put your career at risk.” I bite my lip, desperately not wanting to say the words on the tip of my tongue, but helpless to stop them. “If marrying Cecelia is what your career needs, you shouldn’t choose me.”

His reaction is immediate and it leaves me in no doubt as to what he wants the most in the world. “There’s no way I’m letting you go now that I have you. You let me worry about my career.”

“Okay, but what’s the plan?”

A tug of his lips is the first taste of a smile he’s given me this weekend. “I like this impatience you have for me.”

“It’s not new, just FYI.”

“You’ve done a hell of a job hiding it.”

Another text comes in for him.

I glance at his phone that he placed on the table next to him. “Is it normal for you to get a text a minute?”

“Highly normal.”

“Good God. When will we ever get time for sex?”

A look of desire that I want to always inspire comes to life in his eyes. “That’s not the question I’ll be asking myself.”

Being Bradford’s friend was always the best thing in my life. I think being his partner will far surpass that.

His phone lights up again and I eye it. “I’m going to order some food while you deal with that. Do you want anything?”

He tightens his hold on me when I attempt to move off his lap. “How hungry are you?”

“Starving.”

“Fix your hair. We’ll go out and get food.”

“I don’t want to leave this suite.”

“You’re leaving it. I know a place you’ll love.”

“I knew you’d be bossy.”

He jerks his chin. “Up. Sort your hair.”

I touch my hair. “What’s wrong with it?”

He leans forward and kisses me. “Fucking nothing, but I know you would never go out with just-fucked hair.”

He’s right about that.

Just like I was right about him being bossy.

The thing about that? I want Bradford to boss me around for the rest of my life. I just hope we can figure out a way to be together that doesn’t cause him too much hell.

Bradford

Kristen is lighter than I’ve ever seen her. Freer. Happy. Even though she thinks she’s in the middle of an early mid-life crisis, I can see the difference in her.

I brought her to the restaurant I’ve been eating at since the time my father introduced me to it at the age of twenty-one. It was my first time in Vegas. A father-son trip that is stored in the section of my memories labeledMeaningful. He and I have made many trips back here since then and we always eat at Don’s restaurant.
