“I can’t!” I groaned. “Kansas told me to stay the fuck away from her. He doesn’t want me anywhere near his woman. Fuck Sandman, he’s itching to kill me himself. They all are. I’m a nomad visiting another club’s territory. I go against his edict I might as well sign my own death warrant.”

The brother groaned. “You said his voice was the loudest, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Look Shadow, I know about the voices. I have them too. Only I ignore the fuckers. They got what they deserved. But I never killed an innocent. You want my opinion, I say fuck everyone else and do what his voice is telling you to do. He won’t let you rest until you do.”

“Even if it means Kansas kills me?”

“What other choice do you have, brother? Live with a ghost shouting at you for the rest of your life or do what it’s telling you to do. Either way, you’re screwed. Look, you already know what you are going to do, so just do it. Fucking Diamondbacks kill you and I will hunt them down for ya. No biggie off my back. Been dying to shed some blood, anyway.”

With that, he hung up.

Great. “Thanks for the help, asshole,” I muttered, putting my phone away when movement to my right caught my eye as I saw Kali and the man from earlier walk out of the Farmer’s Market. Moving towards the shadows, I watched as they both got into a car and drove off.

Heading back towards the entrance, I saw Vivi, Pence’s woman, leaning over the steering wheel. Worried, I walked over and knocked on the window. When she didn’t answer, I opened the door. “Vivi? You, okay? You want me to call Pence for you?”

She didn’t answer.

Leaning her back, I noticed blood dripping down her forehead.

Fuck.

Grabbing my phone, I called the clubhouse.

“What?” someone angrily answered.

“Uh, this is Shadow. Is Kansas or Pence around?”

“Nope. They fucking left about five minutes ago, along with half the club. What the fuck do you want?”

“I’m at the Farmer’s Market with Vivi. I found her hunched over in her truck. Her head is bleeding. What do you want me to do?”

“Shit,” the brother cursed. “Yo, Trigger. Come, take this. I have to head to the Market and check on Vivi and Kali!”

“Kali isn’t here. She went with that detective.”

“The fuck did you just say?” another voice said, which I assumed was Trigger.

“She left with the detective about a minute ago.”

“Motherfucker! You need to follow them, Shadow. The club is looking for him. He’s the one who’s been doing all the killing. I can’t leave because I was told to watch the kids. You can’t let anything happen to Kali. Kansas will destroy the whole fucking state if she’s harmed.”

Laying Vivi down across the cab of her truck, I closed the door and ran for my bike. “Send someone to the market to get Vivi. She needs to see a doctor. I’ll call back when I find them.”

Hanging up, I jumped on my bike and started it up, just as my sister walked outside. I didn’t say anything as I peeled out of the parking lot.

It didn’t take me long to catch up with the beige sedan.

Staying far enough back, I followed the vehicle for miles when, about an hour after I left the parking lot, the sedan slowed, turning down a dirt road. Pulling off to the side of the road, I pulled out my phone to call the clubhouse when I saw I didn’t have a signal.

“Fuck.”

Looking around, I couldn’t see anything but farm fields for miles and miles. I had no fucking clue where I was, but I knew I couldn’t leave Kail. If I did, Kansas would definitely kill me dead with a fucking smile on his face. Doing the only thing I could, I parked my bike on the side of the road. I hated the idea of leaving it there, but it was the only option I had. Pocketing my keys, I reached into my saddlebag and noticed my hands shaking.

Taking a deep breath, I looked once more around me. Hoping, praying for someone to drive by. Anyone who could get a message to the Diamondback M.C.

Knowing no one was coming, I took a deep breath. “You can do this,Zeke.”
