Kansas took a step back. “I’ll take care of this one, baby.”

“You do that.”

Kansas left with Talia, grabbing Trigger by the scruff of his neck before he slapped Trigger on the back of the head. When they were out of the room, Vivi and Virginia laughed.

“Oh, my gawd,” Vivi held her stomach. “You deserve a medal for dealing with Trigger and Hellraiser. Those two are unstoppable.”

“I must say, Kaliope, Talia seems very well adjusted to the biker life. She is nothing like the scared little girl I first met.”

“I wish I could say it was me and Kansas, but it wasn’t. She latched onto Trigger immediately and since then, no one can separate them. Though I question some things they do together, he’s been a godsend to her. Sometimes, Trigger is the only person she will talk to. He is very patient with her, and she adores him,” I said, not going into the real reason Trigger was so invested in Talia. It wasn’t my place to say. Which reminded me, looking at Virginia, I asked, “Why are you and the Soulless Sinners here? Not that I mind. I love the company. Are you here because the police arrested John?”

“No, darling.” Virginia began. “Your ex-husband is still at large. I’m here for another reason that has nothing to do with you. It’s club business. I think it’s best if you talk to Kansas about that. In the meantime, I am sorry we showed up unannounced.”

“Think nothing of it. I love having company. It’s one of the reasons I have this big house. Now, when you come to visit, you can stay here with me and Kansas. I never had this when I was with John. He never allowed anyone to visit.”

“That’s because he was a sadistic son of a bitch, Kali,” Vivi muttered. I agreed wholeheartedly. The fact was that he was still at large, causing problems and that bothered me. I wouldn’t be able to rest and enjoy my new life with him still lurking in the shadows.

“Does the New York police have any leads?” I asked, already knowing they didn’t because if they did, I would have heard about it.

“No, darling,” Virginia whispered, reaching for my hand. “But I don’t want you to worry about him. He will make a mistake and when he does, my boys will be there to ensure he gets the justice he deserves.”

I wanted to believe Virginia. I really did, but they didn’t know John like I did. They didn’t know what he was capable of. I did and the thought of him escaping justice sent a shiver of trepidation down my spine.

“On a brighter note. I hired a private investigator to find your brother, Kole. I think it’s time your brother returned home. I think having him around will do you a world of good.”

Nodding, I whispered, “I would love that. I haven’t seen him since I was little. He doesn’t even know about his niece or nephews. I miss him so much.”

Virginia smiled. “Then I will find him for you.”

“I can’t keep her locked up!” I roared at my brother. “It’s not right. It’s been three days since that fucker shot her. She has healed despite the fact that the incident took ten years off my life. She wants to get started on her project. She is serious about this homeless shit, Montana. She put off meetings while she was healing. Now that she’s better, Kali will want to get back to the project she is working on.”

“It’s not safe.”

“Why not!” I yelled. “The fucking Fed is on administrative leave, pending the investigation. I’ve got everyone out looking for Serrano. Hell, I can send brothers out with her if need be. Why is she not safe? What aren’t you telling me?”

My brother cocked his head and just looked at me as if I was stupid. I hated it when he did that shit. Like I could read his fucking mind. No one could, but that didn’t give him the right to come into my clubhouse and order me around.

“Let’s look at the facts, little brother. First, you have a Mexican cartel hitman running around mutilating those of you who went on a vengeance ride down to Mexico. Now, I don’t give two fucks about the other people involved, but I refuse to explain to our parents why you are dead. Then there is the fact that Kaliope’s ex is still on the loose. Fuck brother, for all you know he could have been the one who killed that cop and his dad, then wrote your name on the wall. Not to mention that you have an inner sanctum problem with one of your officers. Shit is piling up Kansas and I don’t like it.”

Okay. He had a fucking point.

Still didn’t give the asshole permission to tell me what to do with my club or my woman. Fucker wanted a say, then he could find his own woman. Kali was mine and I didn’t give a flying fuck that he gave his word to protect her. I was doing just fine without him.

“I’m not keeping her locked up. So, get with the program. Lawton isn’t New York City. We do things differently down here. As for John Stevens, that fucker shows his face and I will put a bullet in his head. Fucker is mine to kill.”

“What about your inner sanctum problem? Payne doesn’t like this Monk.”

“That’s Diamondback business. Not Soulless Sinner.”

Montana grinned. “Think whatever you want, brother, but when it comes to your life and the life of Kali and her kids, it is my business. Now, what are you going to do about this Monk?”

“Not a damn thing. Right now, I don’t have anything on him. I’ve got someone looking into it. Until then, the Diamondbacks go on with business as usual.”

Just then, my phone rang. Picking it up, I shouted, “What?”
