I started to turn and Lay grabbed my arm.

He turned me and pulled me.

Our noses almost touched.

Lay grinned.

I curled my lip. “Got something to say, Lay?”

“In fact I do,” he said. “You sure you want me to say it out loud?”

“Go for it,” I growled.

Lay grinned even bigger.“You’ve got a woman staying with you.”

It tookeverything in me not to look at Remi.

I didn’t want to completely give it away.

It also took a lot not to attack Lay.

Break his jaw. Rip his tongue out.

Make it so he could never talk again.

Lay backed away and threw his arms open. “And with that… I know I’m right.”

“You’re full of shit,” I managed to say.

“Not even close,” Lay said. He looked around. “Here’s the evidence, boys. I set up a date for Riff.”

“Which I didn’t ask for,” I said.

“Doesn’t matter,” Lay said. “You agreed to it. A beautiful woman. Supermodel. And she loves to take her clothes off. Riff saw some provocative pictures, that I’m sure of. What does this guy do? He breaks off the date. He doesn’t even tell me about it.”

“Not your business,” I said.

“It is when it fucks up my plans,” Lay said. “But that’s okay. I worked it out. I ended up enjoying both.”

He winked. Then he looked at Matias.

“This too much for you?” Lay asked. “I mean, you realize the Gerdy thing…”

“Lay. You’re an asshole. We all know it. Even Gerdy.”

“Fair enough,” he said. “Back to my evidence. If everything I said wasn’t enough, look at the current moment. Riff doesn’t want to be here with us. He doesn’t want to practice. He wants to be back in his fancy condo. With his guest. How do I know that?” Lay pointed at me again. “Our guy here is freshly showered.”

I hurried to laugh. “Yeah, you caught me, Lay. Holy shit, I took a shower!”

Abel and Reid started to laugh.

I shook my head.

“It’s not just the shower,” Lay said. “It’s the smell. I can smell sex from a week away. You can’t wash good sex off your body. It seeps through your skin. It shows in your eyes.”

“Lay, you’re freaking us out,” Abel said. “Even for you, this feels a little too far.”

“Fine,” Lay said. “I give up.”
