“No. What does it matter? You’re both adults. Remi, you’ve got your own life. Fiona, same for you. You don’t have a job right now? Big deal. Why does it matter? Not unless you were stealing from the company. Or screwing your boss.”

I gasped. “What? No! You know I would never…”

I caught myself.

Riff’s eyes grew wide.

Remi turned on his barstool and bent his left arm. He placed his elbow to Riff’s chest and nudged him back.

“Only warning you’re going to get to back off,” Remi said. “This is not your business. This is between myself and my sister.”

“And I was never part of your lives?” Riff asked.

Holy shit, Riff! No!

Remi’s lip began to curl.

They’re going to fight.

I stood up from my barstool. “Okay, that’s enough of everything. No more talking about the past. No more talking about my job or the fact that I don’t have a job. Griffin, go sit down. Just get away.”

That appeased Remi enough that he actually smirked for half a second.

Riff went back to his seat.

Remi took a deep breath and looked at the hockey game again.

I slowly exhaled.

My phone screen lit up a few seconds later.

I started to look.

A hand suddenly appeared, blocking my phone screen.

I looked to my right and saw Remi staring at me.

I froze in place as my brother picked up my phone to read the text from Riff.

My mind screamedto do something.

But it was far too late.

Riff looked at me and I never saw him so nervous before.

“This phone has been going off all night,” Remi said. “What do you have going on, Fiona?”

“Give me my phone back, asshole,” I said to my brother.

Remi smirked again.

He was my brother. He was going to forever pick on me and torture me.

But this…

“First off, who is…”

Remi snarled.
