I heard a noise and then Fiona appeared.

“Riff,” she called out.

Her face turned bright red.

Demi looked at Fiona and smiled. “Oh. So this is…”

“What are you doing here?” Fiona asked.

“Just passing by,” I said.

“Well, come right over here,” Demi said. “I need to properly meet you.”

“You must be Demi,” I said as I walked closer to her. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“I’ve heard a lot about you,” Demi said with a sly grin.

“You have not,” Fiona said. “I don’t talk about Riff at all.”

Demi winked at me.

She offered a shaking hand and I took it with both of my hands.

“Oh,” Demi said. “Huge hands. Gentle grip.”

“Demi,” Fiona said.

“I know,” she said. “I’m being a foolish old woman, aren’t I?”

“Just a little,” Fiona said.

“You know, I didn’t even know this place was here,” I said.

“Nobody does,” Demi said. “There’s not much sense of me having this gallery other than it makes me happy. And it’s for myself.”

“Then that makes all the sense to have it,” I said.

“See?” Fiona said. “How many times have I told you that?”

Demi laughed. “I’m going to let you two talk. Unless you’re here to spend some money.”

I lifted an eyebrow. “I know nothing about art.”

“Yet you’re in love with an artist,” Demi said.

“Live with,” I whispered.

That made Demi laugh again.

She slowly and carefully walked to the back of the gallery, out of sight.

Fiona jumped toward me and pushed at my chest. “What are you doing here?”

“What? I can’t come visit?”

“You’re the one who’s so worried about getting caught.”

“Does Remi know about this place?”
