Our tongues met.

My toes curled.

I was falling in love with the guy my brother hated the most, wasn’t I?

Chapter Twenty-Nine

RIFF

The team mood was quiet.

Focused.

Cerebral.

Both Coach and Mags gave their pregame speeches.

Everyone looked to Abel to make a speech, but he didn’t.

He walked away from everyone.

For a minute I figured the overall thought was to just suck and get out of the arena, the hotel and the town.

Fuck it. It was just a couple bad games.

Except I had thoughts going through my head…

The puck hit the ice.

Abel won the face-off and looked right at me.

I slapped my stick on the ice.

He passed to me.

And I was off.

I told myself I was the only guy on the team.

I took a quick bump but didn’t lose the puck.

Abel to my left, driving right with me.

A well thought out defensive play began to set up in front of me.

Fuck all that.

This was hockey.

I took a wild shot.

Way too far from the net.

Nothing on our end set up and ready for an offensive rebound possession to try and take another shot.

The kind of shot you took when there were two seconds left before the game ended.

I hit the puck with force.
