The naked woman in my hotel room. We had a deal. Every time I scored a goal, she took a piece of clothing off.

“Just taking the loss the way we did last night,” I said, choosing a better suited answer. “This team does not play like that. We wanted to come out and show everyone who we really are. And we did that. Four goals from me? It’s not just me. It’s the entire team. The assists. The defense. The play by our goalie.”

Once that was all done, the next obstacle came into view.

Abel offered to buy drinks for everyone.

He wanted to redo what happened last time at the bar.

Remi spoke up first and said it was a terrible idea.

I took the chance and jumped in.

“I can’t,” I said. “I have to get back to my room.”

“Why? Hiding a woman up there?” Lay asked. He then snapped his fingers and pointed at me. “Wait. You are!”

“You have someone up there?” Reid asked. “Who? How?”

“This guy,” Maverick said, grabbing my left shoulder. “Swiping on those apps again, huh? You found a little fun last night after all hell broke loose.”

“And she stayed the night?” Abel asked. He clapped his hands. “You should tell her to stick around. If she makes you play like you did today.”

I looked right at Remi.

Then I looked away.

Play this cool, Riff. Play. This. Cool.

“I’m not saying a word,” I said. “Other than… goodbye.”

I backed away toward the elevators.

“Can I meet her?” Lay called out. “She could rub me off and give me good luck too!”

“Don’t come near my room,” I warned.

I got into the elevator.

As the doors shut, I looked at Remi again.

Our eyes locked.

The doors shut.

“Fuck,” I whispered.

But I didn’t let a single worrisome thought hit me.

My only care was getting back to the room.

To see if Fiona kept her part of the deal.

I ran to the room, opened the door and put theDO NOT DISTURBsign outside.

I shut and locked the door and hurried to the bed.

Fiona was in the bed, under the covers.
