Something was going to happen…

I took another sip of the tea Demi made.

I didn’t like it that much.

But it was Demi’s tea.

I secretly hoped she offered some alcohol for the tea too.

The door to the gallery opened.

I heard the tone in Demi’s voice.

Excited.

Almost in that same flirty tone she used with Riff.

But it wasn’t Riff coming into the gallery.

It was Remi.

I hurried toward Remi.

“Demi,” I called out. “This is my brother. Remi.”

“Demi,” Remi said. “Pleasure.”

Demi stared up at my brother. She nodded. “There’s a lot of you, huh?”

I let out a nervous laugh. “Your names rhyme.”

They both looked at me.

Yes, this is me acting nervous. Very nervous. I don’t want my brother here right now.

“You okay?” Remi asked me.

“Surprised to see you.”

“Surprised to see you too,” he said. “So this is where you’ve been hiding?”

Demi glared at me.

I saw her brain connecting a lot of dots at once.

I swallowed hard.

Demi, I need you right now.

“You’ll have to direct all your blame right here,” Demi said. She reached for Remi’s left hand. “The second I saw your sister paint one time…”

“Painting,” Remi said.

“For me,” Demi said. “For my gallery. But that’s not all.” Demi released her hold on Remi and lifted her hands. They were shaking. “Parkinson’s. Your sister helped me. Has been helping me. She’s a great help. Caring for me. I guess you can say I’m a clingy old lady.”

Remi didn’t like that answer. “And what’s the pay rate for that?”

Demi chuckled. “Oh, you’re a big, mean jock, aren’t you?”
