“See? Was that so hard?”

Remi pushed me away.

Then he smiled.

Chapter Forty-Three

FIONA

Ipainted until my hands began to hurt.

My lower back ached.

My feet tingled from falling asleep.

One window was open in the sunroom, teasing with a salty breeze from the ocean.

When I decided I needed a break, that breeze called me down to the beach.

This is the life.

Painting. Then walking down to the beach.

Hugging myself as the ocean breeze played with my hair and tickled my face.

Listening to the sound of the ocean waves.

Feeling the sunlight on my face.

My mind did remind me more than once about the job offer I turned down.

Enough money that if I worked and saved like crazy I could possibly buy a beach house like this one… in about ten to fifteen years…

I didn’t want to wait.

Call me greedy. Call me entitled.

I wanted to live right now.

The funny part of it all was that my former boss texted me back.

Offering even more money.

I still declined.

He finally asked what it would take for me to come back.

Anything I wanted.

And that was one of the most powerful moments in my life.

There was literally nothing he could do to sway me back to that job.

Even if I was making a huge mistake, I didn’t care.

“That painting is coming along now.”

Demi stepped up next to me.
