Maggie jumped off the bed. “Oh, yeah. For sure. You have to laugh a certain way. Eat a certain way. Oh, Fiona, you can’t go ordering double cheeseburgers and having grease dripping down your chin.”

I tilted my head. “Now I’m really nervous.”

“What’s there to be nervous about?” Maggie asked. “You’re just sneaking out to meet up with your brother’s best friend.”

“Shush!” I yelled.

“Oh, Riff!” Maggie groaned. “Oh…Griffin…”

Maggie started to kiss the air.

My bedroom door flew open and Remi stepped into my bedroom.

My face turned bright red.

And here was the thing - if Remi decided he liked Maggie, I would never get in the way. I would embrace it. I would tell them both to go for it.

Why not go on a date?

Why not…whatever…?

But it wasn’t that way for me when it came to Remi.

One time he stole my diary and read a poem I wrote about Riff.

Always there,

My heart flutters,

Even when I shut my eyes.

Can’t help this,

No ground, I’m falling,

This feels like a surprise.

I whisper your name,
