I planned on running until I stopped picturing Anna naked.

If that were true, I’d never stop running… ever.

New York wonthe game easily.

I watched from my hotel room.

Nobody was prepared for the game.

Coach Denny’s face was bright red the entire game.

Giving up three goals in the first period would do that to any coach.

In the third period, there was a slight comeback.

Two cheap goals scored for theSOLA Empire.

When the final buzzer echoed, the game ended seven-to-two.

And that was that.

Between then and the next game, Anna and I kept to text messages.

I found myself using every excuse I could muster up to give her short answers or no answers at all.

I went to any gym I could find.

Work out. Eat. Drink. Try to not think about Anna.

Rinse and repeat.

And soon enough we’d all be on private flights across the country back home.

That night I was back in the hotel gym.

Lifting to the point of bad physical pain.

Running until my legs were rubbery.

My body ready to just call it quits and force me to collapse and rest.

I sat on a bench, clutching a white towel in my right hand.

I heard the door open and shut and didn’t think anything of it.

At least not until I saw the reflection of Anna in the mirror.

Dressed down again.

This time light blue jeans that hugged her hips and a dark pink hoodie.

Her hair pulled back.

She looked nothing like a doctor.

More like the girl I fell in love with when I was a teenager.

She played with her fingertips.
