Anna smirked. “Well…”

“Have we reached the point of no return, Anna?”

“I don’t even know what that means, Joe.”

“I mean you like being near me. You’re afraid to admit it.”

“What about you?”

“Well, when I’m near you, I don’t feel all that violent.”

“Wow, Joe. That makes me feel good. Seriously?”

“I think we both know how we feel when we’re near each other,” I said.

I inched closer to her.

She inched away, but eventually found herself backed into a corner.

She turned and faced me.

I didn’t stop moving closer.

I grabbed the railing on each side of her.

Blocking her in.

But not really. She could slink away in a second.

But she’s not going to do.

I stared down at her.

Her lips moved a little.

No words. No sounds.

I inched down.

Both of use knowing this time a kiss would be far from just a regular kiss. Or a secret kiss. Or a forbidden kiss.

An inch from her sweet lips, Anna ducked down and moved away from me.

She turned, grabbed the railing, and launched herself over.

For a second she was consumed by the darkness.

I jumped at the railing and almost fell over it myself.

I looked down and saw Anna on the beach, standing up, wiping her hands on her jeans.

She looked up at me and stuck out her tongue.

Then she took off running.

Once again, swallowed up into the night.

I knew what she wanted me to do.
