The first time seeing each other in years.
But now?
Now… I would get what I wanted out of it.
Or maybe I was walking into another disaster.
Chapter Seven
JOE
I stood outside the door.
I made the private security escort go back down the elevator.
No tour needed this time.
I rubbed my jaw and knocked on the door.
“That you, Joe?” Anna’s voice called out from inside the office.
This time she was here before me.
I waited a few extra seconds.
“Joe? That you out there? You can open the door.”
I shook my head.
I’m not opening the door, Anna. You’re going to open the door for me.
I waited as long as needed.
I didn’t knock again.
After calling out my name a few more times, Anna finally opened the door.
She gasped when she saw me.
“Who were you expecting?” I asked. “A ghost? You called out my name.”
“You didn’t answer.”
“No. I didn’t.”
Anna nodded.
Frustrated.
Exactly what I wanted.
“Well, let’s get started,” she said, stepping back. “You can sit wherever you’d like.”
I spotted the chair she had been sitting in.
The same as the first time we talked.
Her notepad and pen on the chair.
