I gritted my teeth and walked toward him.
Bethany grabbed my right arm.
“Hey, calm down,” Herbert said.
“You are legally not allowed in that office,” I said. “Ever. There are medical privacy laws, Herbert. I will be reporting you for what you just did. How do I know you didn’t look through any files? Or swipe some scripts? Huh?”
Herbert’s eyes grew wide. “I think we’re having an issue here, Anna. The kind of issue that makes this relationship no longer work.”
“You want me out of here? Go for it. Break the lease. Make me an offer.”
“An offer?” Herbert yelled.
“You want me out of here, then pay me to leave.”
“Okay, this feels way too serious,” Bethany said.
“Maybe it should be,” I said. “He just went into a locked medical office with records. I’m liable for anything that could happen. I could lose my license. And you should be fined and arrested.”
I pointed at Herbert.
He pointed back. “Then maybe it’s time to discuss the exit of your lease.”
“I’ll call my lawyer.”
“I’ll call mine,” Herbert said.
“I’ll make everyone a coffee,” Bethany said. “Or a stiff drink. Or better yet, why don’t we all just walk away? Take a breather?”
“I just wanted to stop by,” Herbert said.
