“Well . . .” Damn, I was bad at this. “It’s Christmas, right?”

Lute nodded suspiciously.

“Santa can’t be everywhere, at everyone’s party and event, so he sometimes asks some grown-ups to act like him. This way everyone gets some of the magic.”

“Sure, okay,” Lute said as if I’d said something wise.

“So we have to help Santa out by pretending I really am him.”

“But I know the secret.”

I hugged her again. “Of course you do, because you’re smart.”

“Okay, Uncle Noah . . . I mean, Santa. I’m still going to come tell you what I want for Christmas, so you can tell him . . . right?”

“Absolutely, kiddo.”

I sent Lute on her way, then I hurried down to the room Lily had entered. I opened the door and peered inside. A purse was on the bed and I didn’t see the woman. She’d had an elf outfit on her arm so maybe she’d gone into a bathroom to change. I slid into the room and closed the door behind me, then I crept toward the bed. I heard singing from the bathroom and realized that’s where she must be. Perfect.

The song was pretty, but not one I recognized. She did have a lovely voice. I wondered if she had a manager. They should know that their client was a song thief.

When I reached the bed, I glanced toward the bathroom and froze. The door was cracked and I could see her reflection in the mirror. She was wearing just a bra and panties and leaning over to do her makeup in the mirror. I swallowed at the sight of her perfectly round ass. I’d love to wrap my hands around it and thrust myself inside her. I could see her pink lips in the mirror, opening on a moan as I spanked her ass cheek . . . I slapped myself mentally. I had a job to do, I couldn’t stand around fantasizing about her. She was a thief and an enemy, even if she was gorgeous.

It’d been too long since I’d had a night out. Work kept me so busy, I barely did more than jerk off before I fell asleep at night. I shook myself again. If she even glanced my way, she’d see me standing here. I needed to grab the purse and run, so I forced myself to return my gaze to the bed and my real prize. I took a step toward the bed, but I’d stalled too long. The singing stopped. The door to the bathroom creaked, and I darted back out into the hallway before she could see me.

Lily

Mycousinshadsetup a beautiful spot by the tree for Santa and his elves. I didn’t know the other elf, Aaron, but he must have been hired along with Santa. He was a tall, thin guy, perfect for an elf. Aaron stood at the head of the line of children, letting one in at a time, and I walked them up to Santa on the platform.

“Ho ho ho,” Santa said in a super jolly voice. “And what is your name?”

He was kind and patient with each one, which I appreciated. It was surprising to see such a young guy playing Santa happily. And one with a surprising amount of muscles in his shoulders and arms, I couldn’t help thinking every time I touched him. I shouldn’t be thinking about how muscly Santa was at a kids’ event, but I guessed I was well and over Dick. If I’d been honest, that relationship had been going downhill for a while. I needed a distraction, and if the way Santa kept glancing at me was any indication, I might get my wish.

Charlie leaned over the line and handed me a couple of waters. “I thought you guys could use some refreshment,” she said.

I nodded my thanks and took one to the other elf and one to Santa.

“Thanks,” Santa said. His face seemed sweaty under his hat and beard. I guess it was warm in here with the heat on for everyone normally dressed.

“Only a few more children and then we can change for dinner,” I said.

“Oh?” he asked. “I don’t think I’m invited.”

“Well, we have to remedy that,” I said with a flirty smile. “You can be my plus one.”

“Oh, you don’t have to . . .”

“It’s no trouble.” I flagged down Charlie and let her know about the additional setting. Of course, it was no problem. “Besides, it’ll be good to be back in normal clothes.”

“Oh, I can’t do that to the children,” he insisted. “They need the magic.”

“You’ll roast,” I said skeptically. And I really want to see what you look like naked . . . er, in regular clothes. What was wrong with me? Must be my rebound. I was thinking any halfway good-looking guy was up for grabs.

“I’ll be fine,” he insisted, wiping his brow with his glove.

I frowned in disappointment but continued to lead up the children. Santa charmed them all. “You’re so great with kids.”

“Thanks,” he said, and this time I could see his genuine smile, despite the fake white beard. “I’ve always loved them.”
