He wrapped his arms around her. “Never.”

Abigail beamed and turned back to us. “But my brother-in-law has kind of grown on me. He’s very competitive in business, but he’s just a sweetheart with our Lute.”

“Good with kids, huh?” I said, peering through the crowd for a bright red suit. Where had my Santa gone? And when had he become my Santa? Sure, he was a fantastic kisser, that mistletoe kiss had curled my toes, and I’d enjoyed being in his arms when we were dancing. But I’d just met him.

And he had my purse, didn’t he? My song was in there, and while I knew rationally that Dick couldn’t get into the house, I was terrified he’d find a way to get his hands on it.

“Excuse me,” I said to my companions and then pushed my way through the crowd. Where could a man in a bright red suit hide really? I went back through the other rooms. Maybe he’d gone upstairs to the bathroom? I stopped one of the servers and asked if they’d seen Santa.

“He went out front,” she said.

I gave her a puzzled look and slipped out the front door. The drive was quiet. A stand for valets on one end with one sleepy attendant and snow falling silently. The Christmas lights sparkled on the bushes and I heard loud voices coming from the side of the house. What was going on?

“Have you seen Santa?” I asked the valet.

He gestured toward the direction of the voices so I headed that way, more curious than ever. I turned the corner and stared at Santa and my ex-boyfriend, Dick James. What the hell? Santa had been cozying up to me all evening to get the damn song for Dick. Betrayal hit me like a tornado. I’d given him my purse, so now he had the song, he had what he’d come for.

I’d been such a fool.

Noah

AssoonasI’dgotten outside, I pulled my phone from one of the Santa pockets and went to dial Dick, but the jerk popped up in front of me.

I scowled at him. “What the . . . Have you been lurking outside?”

“Yes,” he said without remorse. “I was trying to get Lily to talk to me. I know if we could just have a conversation, she’d see my side.”

“Your side?”

“I mean give me my song back,” he said, shifting foot to foot. “We need it, right? Didn’t you say this would kill the label?”

“It doesn’t matter—”

He ignored me and darted toward the front of the house where a very angry Lily was walking toward us. “Babe, you forgive me, right? I love you and you just don’t give up on something like that.”

She ignored Dick’s groveling, her eyes on me. “So you were a spy?”

“That’s just Noah, the boss, you know?” Dick blabbered. “But, babe, you and I were meant to be together.”

She scowled. “You’reNoah Drake?”

I took off the Santa hat and beard, because there wasn’t much point in hiding now. “I’m sorry, Lily. Dick lied to me, too.”

“Of course Dick lied,” she said. “That’s what Dick James does. But I expected better of you,Santa.” The venom in her voice was unrelenting.

“You wanted me to use the song,” Dick continued, oblivious to our conversation.

“No, Dick,” she spat. “I did not and do not want you to use that song or any one of my songs again. I revoke all the rights to everything I have ever written for you as of this moment.”

“And she has the Sparks Entertainment attorneys to back her up,” Brant said, coming up behind her. “Get the hell off my property. Both of you.”

Dick gave one more pleading glance at Lily, but then he walked away.

“Now give me back my purse,” she demanded, holding out her hand.

“I don’t have your purse,” I said. “I gave it to Charlie.”

She crossed her arms over her chest like my niece. “So you took the song? Are we going to have to fight to get it back?”
