“Yes, yes, I’m fine.”
Ayden’s shaky voice pulled my attention to her, “Noah?”
“He’s fine too. He’s just putting something away in the garage.”
“Thank god neither of you are hurt.”
“Well, about that. Grab your kit. He got grazed by a bullet and it hasn’t stopped bleeding.”
“Again?”
“Yeah.”
Ayden’s face turned a deep shade of red as she moved throughout the bunker grabbing medical items. Then she pushed past me and Talia and stomped upstairs, muttering to herself. It sounded something like, “Why the fuck did I fall in love with a psychopath?” but I couldn’t say for sure.
Talia let out a small laugh, and I placed her back on her feet before we moved to follow Ayden upstairs.
“I’m telling you, it’s not like it was on purpose,” I heard Noah complaining from the kitchen as we came out the door. “You act like I do these things just to bother you.”
“You expect me to believe you don’t?”
“Ayden, you can’t really think I want to get shot.”
She looked straight at me. “Does he run into bullets or hide from them?”
I froze and Talia laughed, “I don’t think I can answer that. Twin law and all that.”
Ayden smacked Noah in the back of the head, then she started on cleaning up his wound.
“I think we are going to head home. Talia needs some sleep.”
“I do?”
“Yes, you do.”
I watched as the girls said their goodbyes and loved the close friendship they already seemed to be forming. If this is what life would look like in the future, then I was a pretty fucking lucky man.
