I won't lie, I'd stick my cock into her if I got the chance. Most of the guys in Dusk Bay would. They'd probably lose their cock five seconds later, but it might just be worth it.

"Do you think she knows what this place is like?" Ice propped his elbow on the table and rested his chin on his hand. His hazel eyes lingered on Kennedy. "I mean, she seems innocent to me. Like she thinks we all have pet bunnies, and spend our weekends mowing lawns and growing chrysanthemums."

"You did have a pet bunny and grew chrysanthemums," I pointed out. His parents paid someone to mow the lawn.

He looked over at me, a dreamy expression on his face. "Yeah, Mr Flopsy. I was so sad when he died. But then I got to cut him up and see how he worked." The memory of that brightened him up a little. Typical Ice. I'd seen him slice animals and people and marvel at the blood, bones and muscles and the way everything fit together, and came apart. No wonder he studied forensic pathology at university. He loved nothing better than a good autopsy.

Sick fuck.

I wasn't entirely convinced Mr Flopsy hadn't met with a nasty Ice-related accident, but he seemed genuinely upset when the thing died. Maybe he'd killed it by accident. If he had, it was the only time he ever killed anything or anyone by accident. It might have given him a taste of blood and death. A thirst he enjoyed slaking whenever he could. I've never met anyone who enjoyed killing as much as he did. It was almost like he needed to murder someone to start his day, like normal people drank coffee.

"Did you dissect the chrysanthemums too?" Ares asked, his tone scathing.

Ice cocked his head at him. "No, those were for my mother. She liked to have fresh flowers everywhere." A mischievous glint in his eye added, "Your mother liked them too, right before I—"

Ares growled deep in the back of his throat. "Don't try to imply you fucked my mother. I'll rip off your dick and shove it down your throat."

"I wasn't trying to imply anything," Ice said as though he was saying it outright. He probably had fucked Ares' mother. Almost everyone else in Dusk Bay had, except me. I wasn't into older women who liked to be in control. I preferred to be the one in control.

"You're an asshole," Ares said.

"Maybe, but I…"

I tuned out their bullshit and looked around the party as though I wasn't keeping a close eye on Kennedy. I made a note of everyone she spoke to, especially anyone she was friendly with. Particularly if they had a cock. If they thought they were going to touch her, they could think again.

I’d cut their fucking hand off and smack them with it, then stab them in the stomach and let them die slowly. I’d make Kennedy watch so she knew what would happen to anyone if she let them touch her. Then I’d tie her to my bed and punish her by making her ass black and blue with my hand before I fucked the hell out of her.

Everyone would learn not to touch her. Including her. By the time I was done with her, she’d know not to touch herself. I’d be the only one to touch her, to get her off.

Me.

And when she came, she'd scream my name and be grateful to belong to me.

Chapter Five

Kennedy

"So… I'm supposed to go in this morning to check out the gymnastics place," I said slowly.

Mum and Leo both looked at me over their coffee cups. Their expressions matched except for Leo's slightly raised eyebrow.

"I don't have a car." I thought back to Ice offering to buy Mannix's car like it was nothing. It was probably nothing for Leo too, but I wanted to buy my own car when I had my own money. I hadn't needed one back in Sydney, I took the train everywhere, or rode my bike. Public transport didn't come to this part of Dusk Bay. And it was too far from anywhere to ride.

"If I could borrow one…" I started tentatively. Leo had a collection of them, but most of them were crazy expensive, like his white Shelby Cobra, and a classic Rolls-Royce. All I needed was an old rust bucket. Or a little hatchback.

"I'll drive you," Mannix said, his voice tight. He was standing in the kitchen, his back to the bench. His long fingers were curled around a black mug full of black coffee. The same shade as his soul.

He gave me a look like I'd insisted, instead of him offering.

"What a lovely idea," Mum said. "It's so nice to see you two getting along."

I gave her a watery smile. He let me tag along to the party, but didn't say a word to me all night, or since. It seemed like every time I turned around, he was watching me, trying to figure out a way to get rid of me. Every time I caught him looking, he immediately looked away and stalked off into another room.

Mannix looked at Mum like maybe she was crazy, but didn't say anything. It was obvious to everyone we weren't exactly friends.

That begged the question of why he offered to drive me in the first place. Was this his attempt to make an effort to get to know me, or was I going to end up disposed of, like the man at the ball?

Yeah, okay, I was being a little bit paranoid, but Ihadseen a man murdered. Part of me wanted to ask if Mannix knew anything about it, but he and his friends weren't in town at the time. Did Leo know? Did I want to know if he did?
