"Then we'll have to persuade her," Mannix said reasonably.

"Why do I have the feeling my workroom is going to get really busy, very soon?" I would absolutely not put it past Mannix to dispose of the other candidates just to get his way.

"Because Kennedy's safety is important. Nothing and no one is going to get in the way of that."

"Including Kennedy?" I asked. "Our girl might disagree with that." I knew she knew how important her safety was. I saw that in the way she quickly and easily slipped into the role when Nixon was chained to the ceiling. The way she embraced her darkness was one of the hottest things I've ever seen. Followed closely by watching her fuck Mannix and Ares while I tortured the man.

I saw the darkness in her the first time we met, but now she was coming to see it. I loved every minute of it.

"Let me worry about that." Mannix was silent for a minute or two before he broke it by saying, "About that kiss."

I hadn't expected him to bring it up, but now he did, I was slightly worried.

"You don't regret it, do you?" I hadn't had to deal with rejection very often. I wasn't good at it. People tended to get hurt while I worked through my frustration. I was okay with that, but they weren't.

"No." His reply wasn't quick, but it was firm. "Just making sure you don't."

I'd never seen uncertainty on his face, and it was only a flash, but it was there.

Exploiting vulnerabilities was one of my superpowers, but I wouldn't do it with Mannix. Or anyone I cared about. The feeling it gave me was conflicting. I wasn't used to it from him and it threw me off a little bit. If anything, it made me like him even more.

Who knew there was an actual person with feelings under his rock hard façade?

"I have absolutely no regrets." I pushed myself up off the wall and stepped over to give him an awkward bro hug. I'd kissed him and I'd had his cock down my throat, but I wasn't used to actual affection with another guy. Hugging, snuggling, that was out of my wheelhouse, but I was willing to learn.

"Actually, I have one," I said. I looked for the flicker of uncertainty again, but it wasn't there. His stoic-as-fuck mask was back in place. In case there was some misery, I decided to put him out of it.

"I wish we did it sooner, and I hope we can do more of it."

His brief nod was the only sign of his relief. He put a hand on the back of my head and spoke in a whisper.

"You should know that, as far as I'm concerned, you're mine, as much as Kennedy is. If anyone touches either of you, unless it's Ares, I'll rip off their faces and make them eat it."

I whispered back. "That is so fucking hot. Also, I'd like to see that. How would you keep them alive long enough for them to eat their own face?"

He sounded like he almost choked on a laugh. "That's your department, I just make the threats."

I smiled. "Got it." Of course now my mind was in a whirl, thinking how to do just that for him. With any luck, I could try it on Charlie soon.

"If anyone touches you or Kennedy, unless it's Ares, I get to use my chair." I kept my chair for extra special occasions. As fun as it was to chain people to the ceiling, the chair was more personal. It let me get down to their level. Also, with their feet restrained, I got to do all sorts of interesting things to their toes.

They were fascinating thing, toes. Sensitive, often ticklish, and beautifully protected by nails. Until they weren't.

I could spend days playing with people's feet and never get tired of it.

"What happens if anyone touches Ares?" I jerked my head towards the new gym, where he was currently overlooking the renovation. He seemed to have taken it on as his own personal project. No one seemed to mind, so we left him to it.

"He punches them out," Mannix said. "Failing that, I'm sure we can think of some suitable punishment for them."

"Maybe we could set up that workroom out in the Simpson desert like we talked about," I said. I was curious to see how people would cope when being restrained and tortured out in the desert, under the relentless Australian sun. I suspected it would suck really hard. For them. And for me, because I hated extreme heat like that. Still, it would be worth it.

"We could buy an island and you could use the beach for that," Mannix said distractedly.

I followed his gaze and watched the fifth interviewee leave Kennedy's office and head for the door.

He gave us an uneasy look before he hurried out.

"I don't like the idea of any men working here," I remarked.
