He nods, and I can tell he’s terrified and excited I spoke to him. I smile. For these young kids for them, everything is do-or-die.
Angelo is back within minutes. I don’t know how much he threatened them, but the coffee was fresh, and I know every employee was deployed to make the sandwiches fresh.
I hand the bagel to Emily. She barely looks up from the computer screen as she takes a bite hungrily.
“Mm,” she says, relishing the food.
A little bit of cream cheese leaves a mark on the corner of her lip.
I slide my forefinger over to her lip and graze a crescent-moon path to clean it.
She looks up at me now, with my finger still on her lip.
I want to kiss her.
But two of my honchos are still working on their desks.
Instead, I pull back my finger and lick the cream cheese off it.
I can see the desire in her eyes and feel it thundering up my spine.
“People,” I whisper and take a step back.
“Thank you,” she mutters, now sipping her coffee.
She shakes her head, almost to wake herself up, and looks back at the screen.
As she types furiously on the keyboard, I lean in closer, resting my hand on her back.
She pauses momentarily, glancing up at me with a hint of a smile.
“What are you thinking about?” she asks, facing me fully.
“You,” I reply, my voice low. “Always you.”
She bites her lip, her eyes flickering over my face before settling on my lips.
She turns her head fast, and I follow her gaze to see that the two men have their backs to us, working on computers facing the entrance.
Without a word, she leans in, pressing her mouth to mine.
The kiss is electric, charged with a raw, animalistic hunger I’ve never felt before.
I deepen the kiss, my hands sliding up her back to tangle in her hair.
She moans into my mouth, her body arching against mine.
Realizing she had made a sound, she immediately pulls back and look at my honchos.
She bites her lower lip and shrugs.
“Circumstances,” she whispers and turns back to the screen.
“God, you’re a fucking tease,” I tell her, stepping back too.
I go and sit in the chair nearby.
Ten minutes later, she looks at me.
