Maya whimpers and shakes her head, but her scent becomes even more fragrant. Her body is telling her to mate, to procreate. The presence of two strong alpha males is too much, and she’s too far gone to resist. Her fingers twist in her top as she looks at me, completely torn and guilty about what’s about to unfold.

“It’s okay,” I whisper. “Maya, it’s okay. It’s not your fault.”

Her tears continue to fall, and she pulls her top over her head, revealing a sports bra underneath and her toned, flat stomach. My soul feels like it’s being torn in two. Ethan’s eyes are completely blue now and he looks feral at the sight of more exposed skin. He takes a step further into the room, then stops, spinning away, agitated, before pacing again towards Maya.

Kim’s loving every second of this and she edges closer to watch as Maya's quiet whines turn into stifled sobs.

How could anyone be so cruel as to come up with this in their sick and twisted mind?

“Nathan, you’re going to learn what it’s like to see the person you want more than anything fuck someone else right under your nose. Let’s see how much you like it. And Ethan, I don’t think there’ll be any coming back to Grey Ridge after this. We might be seeing much more of each other when Toby takes over the Anderson pack again.”

I don’t think Ethan even hears her ramblings about going to live with a dead man. He’s standing eerily still in the bedroom doorway, watching my beautiful mate as her glowing eyes flash back and forth between us. Her tempting scent becomes stronger and more seductive by the minute. It’s tinged with something else, though.

Fear.

All I want to do is wrap her up in my arms and take her away from this. She has been through enough.

Kim saunters up behind Ethan, pressing the gun to his waist, pushing him forward. She’s watching with barely concealed interest, and it disgusts me to think she is getting a thrill from this.

“Go ahead, Ethan. Take her. Take what you want.”

CHAPTER 32

MAYA

My remaining clothing chaffs against my sensitive skin, and the pressure inside my head is intensifying. I want to strip everything off my body this very second, but I’m clinging to enough control to resist. Barely.

My wolf whines, desperate for her mate to tend to us. Our connection isn’t fully formed, but there’s a thin tendril of magic linking us already. It’s only a shadow of what will exist once we’re mated and marked, but I feel it. If I’m honest, I always felt it. Fear made me refuse to believe it. If we’re ever mated and marked, I can’t imagine how powerful that pull will become.

As much as I want my mate to be the one to satisfy my needs, my wolf will accept another male just to put us out of our misery. The thought is terrifying. The pain is unbearable. I needsomethingto take it away. It’s not what I want, but it’s what I need. Heat licks at my nerve endings. Every inch of me is on fire, burning me from me inside out and I’m struggling to stay on my feet. I sway and squeeze my eyes shut, fighting off another wave of dizziness and nausea as they wash over me.

From the moment Ethan stepped into the room, Nathan has been emitting a continuous, low growl, warning Ethan not to touch me. I’m not sure Nathan is even aware he’s doing it, and it’s not working. I can see the wolf in Ethan’s glowing eyes. I can see his hunger. Ethan’s wolf is strong, and I don’t know enough about him to judge how much control he has over it, but I’m hoping he has more control than me, or we could be in trouble.

Nathan continues to struggle against his cuffs. Behind his delicious scent, I can pick up the faint smell of his burnt flesh where the silver has scorched his skin as he twists and turns, refusing to give up on escape. My stomach churns at the idea that he is hurt. Tears spill from my eyes as I watch him shake in the chair, his muscles straining as he tries to break free.

He’s fighting for me. I need to be strong and do the same.

Kim’s voice floats through the fog of my torment. She sounds like she’s far away. Or underwater. I force my brain to focus as she jabs Ethan in his side with the gun, forcing him closer to me. His heady scent surrounds me. My traitorous wolf preens, welcoming the attention, as his aura changes from angry to aroused. He’s an attractive, dominant male, and she needs relief. Before I met Nathan, he would have been exactly my type, with those striking blue eyes and blonde hair.

“Take what you want. She’s a ripe alpha female, and she needs you to end her suffering. You could get the pups and the mate you’ve always wanted? Do it.”

Kim’s whispered words snap me back to reality and I hear Nathan’s anguished roar from the other side of the room. She’s like the Devil sitting on Ethan’s shoulder, urging him to relent, to give in to the dark desires I can see swirling in those deep blue eyes. He’s trying to fight it, but her poisonous words feed his wolf’s need to claim and breed.

The chair rattles and bangs off the floor as Nathan struggles violently to get free.

“Ethan,” his voice is menacing. “I’ll fucking kill you if you touch her. Don’t do this!”

A sob escapes me even as the slick continues to drip between my legs, welcoming him, calling to him. My pussy is begging for someone to fill it up. I need that burn. My body wants to be taken hard and fast. As the scent of my arousal gets stronger, I’m mortified. I feel so weak. Shame fills me as my gaze lifts to Ethan’s, afraid of what I’ll see there.

Jaw clenched, he holds eye contact, and silence stretches out between us. Nathan’s shouts fade into the background as Ethan and I zero in on each other. A sense of calm settles over me. My shoulders relax and I feel my body loosen. Confused, I tilt my head to the side and blink up at him, trying to work out why, suddenly, with this overwhelming threat looming right in front of me, I feel at ease.

Is this me giving up and recognising my fate? Am I accepting this as one more fucked up thing that happens in my life? To add to the list of traumas I’ve endured?

Ethan sweeps a trembling hand through his tousled, surfer-dude hair in a move designed to look agitated, but his face is perfectly calm. He gives me the smallest of nods. It was so slight, I worry I might have imagined it until one side of his mouth quirks up in another subtle but comforting gesture. Holding my breath, I freeze, not understanding what’s going on here. Obviously, he knows something I don’t.

Before I have time to figure it out, Ethan spins, shoving me to the side roughly with one arm while he grabs Kim's hand with the other. I tumble over the bed and crash against the wall with a hard thud. A deafening bang sounds in the suite and the lamp beside me explodes, shards of porcelain flying around the room. Ducking my head, I scramble to my feet.

Kim’s howling in pain, cradling a badly broken arm as she half crawls, half drags herself toward the gun that slid across the floor. Ethan’s lying face down, groaning loudly as he tries to push off the floor with one arm. Red blooms on his side, his t-shirt stained, and a copious amount of blood seeps from a wound.
