He dug his fingers into my thighs, and honestly, it felt good. No one had ever grabbed me like that, like they needed me. Even when Teris and I were together, we’d been keeping it a secret. He’d never really touched me—which was a good thing in hindsight, because if he had, it would’ve started a bond between us.

Although, maybe it was a bad thing in hindsight. Because if we’d had a bond, meeting Aev wouldn’t have done a damn thing to it, at least for me and Teris. If anything, knowing that Aev was feeling that connection would’ve pushed Teris and I to seal the bond we’d already started to free Aev.

And if that had happened… well, then everything would’ve been different. So damn much different.

But that hadn’t happened.

“I will trap your ass right here and hold you fucking captive if you don’t tell me, Nai.”

I scowled. “You wouldn’t.”

“Try me.” The grit in his voice told me he was being honest.

But I wasnotgetting manipulated into telling that shitty story to the man I’d thought wasn’t interested in me. If he wanted my answers, he could come up with some sensitive shit to tell me in exchange. He was the one sprouting crap about not letting me mate with anyone else, which meant he was planning on mating with me and would do it to stay alive.

So, there was no risk to me.

Outside of the basic risk that Teris potentially was to my heart, and mind, and every other damn part of me. Including the extremely sensitive bits.

“I’m not telling you,” I said flatly.

He stepped up to one of the thick columns, sliding me off his back as he pressed a hand to it. The glowing flowers on it slid to the side as he set me down on my feet, pinning me against the stone.

I peered over my shoulders, one after the other.

The flowers were only a few inches to either side of me, which meant there was a real chance I could hit them if I tried to escape. Which could potentially make me sick for days. Days that I couldn’t afford, given the deadline for taking a mate that was approaching.

Teris took my face in his hands.

Those gorgeous, dark teal eyes blazed into mine for a long, long moment.

And then he kissed me.

I’d never kissed anyone. I’d been eighteen when I was pulled out of Earth, and I’d spent the last six of those eighteen years taking care of my dying mother. At the end, things had gotten so bad that I had to drop out of high school to become her full-time caregiver. And I’d cherished every damn one of those minutes.

But they hadn’t exactly made me experienced at much of anything else.

And kissing Teris was…

Well damn, it was like nothing I’d ever imagined.

His lips were soft and hot on mine, his tongue sliding into my mouth without so much as a pause of hesitation. He kissed me like he was claiming me, like he was telling me that I was his again.

Like he wanted me, and needed me, and belonged to me.

And damn, I wanted him to belong to me.

Even though there was so much shit to work through, and so many factors we’d needed to deal with… I still wanted him.

Despite the beginnings of a bond falling into place in my chest.

Despite the past we hadn’t worked through.

Despite the aching pain in every limb I possessed.

Despiteeverything.

One of his hands slid around the back of my neck. He buried it in my hair and used the grip to tilt my face back, so he had better access to my mouth.
