There were still so many things we hadn’t talked about.

So many years we hadn’t caught up on.

So many factors we hadn’t considered.

And yet the only thought I had was,I want this to happen again, soon.

Six

Teris must’ve learned enoughabout my mating with Aev to satisfy him, because he didn’t bring it up again as he slid his fingers out of me, sucked my pleasure off of them, and then scooped me into his arms and resumed walking.

Despite the erotic moment, I must’ve fallen asleep almost immediately.

I wasn’t sure how much time had passed when his hands were on my face again, waking me up gently. I wondered, passingly, if because he hadn’t touched me back then, he was trying to make up for lost time now. Or if he just really loved touching me.

“We have to go underwater,” he told me quietly. He was sitting on the edge of a lake of some kind, with his butt on stone but legs hanging in the water. I didn’t feel any water on myself, and when I lifted my head from his chest, realized I was straddling him.

I blinked a few times, trying to wake myself up. Now that I wasn’t asleep, the ache in my limbs was awful.

His lips brushed mine, lightly. Like he couldn’t resist.

“Do you hate me for the bond yet?” I whispered to him.

His lips curved upward. “I was obsessed with you long enough that I don’t even feel it.”

My heart warmed.

“We do need to get underwater, though. There’s a possibility that your creatures may go for the other fae without you to control them.”

My eyes widened at the thought.

I had a week to pick a mate… but those things could do a lot of damage in a week, without anyone to guide them.

“We have to warn everyone,” I said.

He dipped his head in a nod. “Even if it means going back.”

Shit.

I really didn’t want to go back and deal with everyone. The gossip there would be, when me and Teris, the only fae villains, showed up bonded…

Damn.

He chuckled. “It won’t be that bad.”

“They hate me,” I admitted. “All the unseelie men. A lot of the seelies too. And the female fae don’t understand why I didn’t want Aev, now that they’ve seen him with Dakota.”

“The female fae don’t like anyone.” He slid a hand into my hair and tugged playfully. “And when we show up mated, no one will dare talk bad about you.”

I huffed a sigh. “It’s not going to work like that.”

He changed tactics. “Nev told me before I left that Fovea’s scent had started changing. That means she’s likely pregnant—and if she is, everyone will have much bigger things to worry about than us finding each other again.”

“They don’t know we found each other the first time,” I pointed out.

“I can ensure that gossip makes its way around, if you’d prefer. If we’re star-crossed lovers, we aren’t villains anymore.”

I gave him a dark look. “We weren’t star-crossed lovers.”
