“She undersold it, right?” I mumbled.
He chuckled, low and rough.“You’re the best.”
The words felt distinctly like a thought, and happiness swelled inside me. The few times I’d heard Aev’s thoughts, it had just feltwrong.
“If you’re thinking about him while I’m throbbing inside you, I must be doing this wrong,”he growled into my mind, though I could feel that he was mostly teasing. It would take some time to get past the… well, the past… but we’d get there.
I had to believe that.
“How am I still horny?”I groaned at him.“We’re supposed to be headed back to the Stronghold right now.”
“We’ll make this quick, then.”He nipped at my throat, and then rolled us over in one smooth motion. Mud was all over both of us at that point, but neither of us cared. It tooka few minutes to clean the mud off—and to find our clothes, then clean them too—before we were finally ready to hit the road.

There was something almost awkward between us.
I wanted to figure it out, to sit down and talk about it, but we didn’t have time. And honestly, everything had happened between us so fast that I was still kind of worried that I might end up regretting everything.
I’d never told Teris that, of course. It would only hurt him.
But he had to be thinking and feeling the same way, didn’t he? We hadn’t even had a conversation about our past twenty years, outside of the missing each other thing. And something told me we had both changed more than we realized.
We’d cross that path when we got there, I guessed, because we had no choice but to be all-in now. Although, there were definitely a lot of shitty degrees to a mate bond. I’d been there and done most of them.
Hopefully we could figure out a way past them, because the last thing I wanted was another crappy mating.

I figured I’d need to rest for a while to recover from the impact of the magic, but according to the goddess, we would be fine after we adjusted to the new channel of magic.
