His emotions faded away as we came down from the high, both of us breathing hard.

“Fuck, Vevol did a number on you,” he grunted at me, dragging my palm to his heart and pressing my hand down hard on it. “That magic has a bite to it.”

“She undersold it, right?” I mumbled.

He chuckled, low and rough.“You’re the best.”

The words felt distinctly like a thought, and happiness swelled inside me. The few times I’d heard Aev’s thoughts, it had just feltwrong.

“If you’re thinking about him while I’m throbbing inside you, I must be doing this wrong,”he growled into my mind, though I could feel that he was mostly teasing. It would take some time to get past the… well, the past… but we’d get there.

I had to believe that.

“How am I still horny?”I groaned at him.“We’re supposed to be headed back to the Stronghold right now.”

“We’ll make this quick, then.”He nipped at my throat, and then rolled us over in one smooth motion. Mud was all over both of us at that point, but neither of us cared. The position changed the sensations entirely, and when Teris started moving, I found myself spiraling back into another orgasm so much faster than I expected.

“One more?”he asked me, grinning down at me as we both struggled to catch our breaths.

“Just one,”I agreed, then grabbed onto him and held tightly as he sprung to his feet, walking our bare, mud-coated asses to the nearest tree. He pinned me, and fucked me slowly, until we were unraveling together in the most intimate orgasm yet.

Seven

It tooka few minutes to clean the mud off—and to find our clothes, then clean them too—before we were finally ready to hit the road.

“Can I carry you?” he asked me, looking at me sideways as he fastened his pants back into place. His face was a little red, and I itched to feel his emotions again, so I could know exactly what he was thinking. Our thoughts didn’t seem to automatically broadcast to each other; it took focus.

“Sure. You’re probably faster than me,” I agreed.

There was something almost awkward between us.

I wanted to figure it out, to sit down and talk about it, but we didn’t have time. And honestly, everything had happened between us so fast that I was still kind of worried that I might end up regretting everything.

I’d never told Teris that, of course. It would only hurt him.

But he had to be thinking and feeling the same way, didn’t he? We hadn’t even had a conversation about our past twenty years, outside of the missing each other thing. And something told me we had both changed more than we realized.

We’d cross that path when we got there, I guessed, because we had no choice but to be all-in now. Although, there were definitely a lot of shitty degrees to a mate bond. I’d been there and done most of them.

Hopefully we could figure out a way past them, because the last thing I wanted was another crappy mating.

I buriedmy fingers into Teris’s silky fur as he ran through the forest. The ache in my body had faded for the most part, but I still felt exhausted. I figured I’d need to rest for a while to recover from the impact of the magic, but according to the goddess, we would be fine after we adjusted to the new channel of magic.

I’d never ridden on anyone’s back before—at least not of my own volition. The only times I’d ridden with someone had been by force, and obviously, I hadn’t been a fan of that.

But running with Teris was completely and absolutely different. It felt the way flying did; like freedom.

I leaned in close to him, holding his fur securely as my lips stretched slowly into a grin.

“You doing okay?”he asked me, his voice calmer than I’d ever heard it. The mental communication felt right, this time. Natural, too.

“I’m great,”I admitted.“This is incredible.”

“A new way to see Vevol?”His voice was a bit playful, and that made my grin wider.

“Mmhm. Riding my man: the best way to tour a new world.”

He snorted.“This world isn’t new for you. Or at least it shouldn’t be.”
