“If you can tuck your female away somewhere, she’s an entirely different kind of woman than mine,” Teris drawled.

I bit back a snort—but he was right. I was not the kind of person who accepted being hidden away.

“It takes persuading, but it’s doable. I made cake.”

I perked right the hell up at that.

Was I willing to be tucked away for cake?

After being out in the wilderness for so long, looking for the klynna cave, you could be damn sure I was.

“I’ll go for cake,” I called out. I’d only met January a few times, but I liked her. We could chat long enough to enjoy the cake, and if the fight wasn’t over yet, I’d duck out early.

“Damn. Guess I need to become a better baker,” Teris remarked.

Lian snorted. “You’ve never baked a day in your life. In hindsight, it’s not at all surprising that you’ve been in love with Naomi for twenty years.”

I heard something that sounded like Teris probably smacked Lian. “Give us a minute to get dressed,” he told the dragon.

He closed the door, and strode over to me, dragging me into his arms. “You’re going to sneak out early if you get bored, aren’t you?”

“Yup,” I confirmed.

He chuckled. “Just be careful. And stay away from men. Please.”

“I’m not a huge fan of that broad request.Stay away from men. You know there are still more men than women in this world, right?”

He chuckled. “Broad or not, I won’t deal well if I come back from fighting a bunch of damn dragons and find you talking with some bastard who’ll obviously be attracted to you.”

I rolled my eyes at him. “The unseelies hate me. The seelies know we’re mated. I’m positive you have nothing to worry about.”

“And yet I’ll worry anyway.” He captured my lips in his, and when he slid his tongue into my mouth, I kissed him back without hesitation.

Lian banged on the door again, yelling, “They’re getting closer.”

I pulled away, and Teris grumbled, “Bastard.”

There was fondness behind the word, though. He had Lian had been close long before I ever met him. “I’ll burn the mud off our clothes real quick so we can get moving.” I hesitated for a moment. “Maybe one of us should talk to Aeven and Dakota? I’m sure he won’t be bothered or anything; I think he dislikes me a lot more than I dislike him at this point, but he probably deserves a warning. Or an explanation.”

Teris’s expression darkened. “I’ll talk to them. I probably owe the bastard an apology for winning your heart before he could anyway.”

“Way to be humble.” I clapped sarcastically, and he grabbed my face again, kissing me again.

“You’re mine,” he said. “You always have been. I’m not going to apologize for that. But I should’ve come for you the moment he took you from me; I shouldn’t have doubted you. So I do owe him an apology for leaving you in limbo.”

He tugged me toward the bathroom. “We should probably hurry.”

Five minutes later,Teris was climbing up the ladder behind me. He grabbed my ass halfway up the ladder, and I shot him a raised eyebrow over my shoulder, to which I received a grin.

When we emerged, Lian was studying Teris.

“Don’t be weird,” he grumbled at the dragon, shutting the door to his place and wrapping an arm around my waist.

“You’re the one who lied to us for twenty years. I’d say that’s pretty damn weird,” Lian countered.

He had a point.

“I wasn’t about to put a target on her back by announcing to everyone that sex existed. As far as I knew, she was shacked up in a love cave with the unseelie king.” Teris squeezed my hip lightly. “I should’ve tried harder.”
