“Ooo! Brie!” Stella chirps.

I turn around to find she’s already broken into the picnic basket. I was hoping to get in a quickie before our bellies were full, but… that’s fine. “If you want to swim, you should do that first.”

“Or what, the leeches will get me?”

“You might get a cramp and we’re all alone out here. I’d have to save you.”

Stella scoffs. “Fine.” She gets back to her feet and pulls her cover-up over her head, revealing a sleek black bikini.

I gulp. “I haven’t seen you wear that before.”

She laughs. “Cash let me borrow it. When she heard we were going out, she was all like, ‘You can’t wear that stodgy one-piece on a date,’” Stella mimics in an Australian accent that is damn near perfect.

I scratch the back of my head and sigh, my eyes traveling up and down her figure. I’ve delighted in it now four times, her buxom ass, the soft and slight curve of her lower belly. It’s making me hard just looking at her. “Well, it suits you.”

“Suitsyou! I see what you did there,” Stella giggles. “Like a swimsuit?”

I blink.

“You didn’t mean to do that?”

I shake my head. “Giving me more credit than I deserve for a pun like that.”

Stella shrugs. “Think faster next time.” Then with the grace of an Olympic swimmer, she dives into the water.

I’m used to women who don’t want to get their hair wet and who can’t imagine breaking a nail. She’s down for almost anything except capitalism, which is a big one in my book, but her free-spiritedness speaks to my soul.

When she comes up above the water, she grins. “Come on in! Water’s warm.”

Unlike the poolside back in Santorini, there are no prying eyes watching our every move. Here, I have no one to impress. Except for Stella. So, I fling off my shirt and dive in after her, a bit clumsier, but still.

We float around for a bit, enjoying the beautiful sunlight and water softly lapping around us. Then, Stella swims over to the rocky plateau and finds that the water gets shallow enough to stand in. I follow her, gliding through the water until my feet touch the bottom, sooner than hers could. “You’re right. The water’s nice.”

She shrugs. “Of course, I’m right.”

I smile, but again, when her hazel eyes meet mine, I look away.

What’s wrong with you, man? You’ve been inside her and you can’t make a little eye contact?

Her eyes are Colin’s eyes. When I see that brown edged in green, all I think about is how I’ve betrayed my friend.

“Did you see Adelaide’s face when we were boarding the boat?”

I look back at her with a frown. “No. I didn’t even know she was watching.”

“Of course, she was,” Stella says, crossing her arms. “From the aft.”

“Well, what was her face?”

Stella rolls her eyes and pouts her lips out, trying to recreate a face I know well. The judgement of Adelaide Frazer. “Like this,” she says.

“You look like a fish,” I laugh.

“Well, you know what I mean,” she says, waving her hands as if it doesn’t matter. “She looked pissed. That’s all.”

“Now, why would she be pissed that I’m going on an excursion with my ‘girlfriend’?” I ask in a teasing lilt, pushing myself toward Stella in the water until we’re toe to toe, and I can crane my lips down to hers.

Stella looks away before I can do the deed, though. “Because she’s not over you.”
