Her gaze travels slowly over my body and her tongue darts out to lick her bottom lip. She winces when she does and it’s only then that I notice the split in her lip.

“I guess that proves that there’s nothing being recorded in here since I’m guessing that admitting that would get you fired.”

“Who the hell beat you up?” I ask, no longer wanting to remind her of our night together. Instead, I want to kill whoever dared to put their hands on her.

She grins and shrugs but I catch the uneasy look in her eyes before she turns away from me. I want to do everything in my power to make that look go away but I know I can’t. Not with my job hanging in the balance.

Not with everything I’ve worked for on the line.

I worked hard to turn my life around. I’m not going to lose the life I have for one girl.

As much as I want to make this personal, I have to remember the two different worlds that we come from. I have to remember that we are nothing more to each other than informant and handler.

“Aria, who the fuck did that to your face?”

“My father. Who else? You know, there’s nothing he loves more than proving his own children aren’t above the laws he sets for his people.”

“So, what did you do?” I ask, taking another step closer to her, trying to see everything that was done to her.

“Slept with you.” She smirks and crosses her arms. “I’m not sure it was good enough to get a black eye and a split lip for.”

I run my hand through my hair. There are a million different questions racing through my mind but I can’t start thinking about any of that right now. I need to confirm that she is on my side and then I need to get the hell out of here before I make another mistake.

“Why did you ask me to meet you here tonight?” I ask. “What’s changed in the time since I’ve last seen you?”

She smiles and a cold and cunning look appears in her eyes. The sweet and snarky woman I know is gone, and in her place is a cold-blooded shark who knows how to manipulate the situation to her advantage.

My cock swells, straining against my jeans, as I think about the power that she holds. She may be young and seem innocent, but she is anything but.

“Now, why would I go giving you information on my father without knowing that there is a contract in place that outlines your end of the bargain and exactly what you expect from me?”

“Because, for whatever reason, you’ve decided that you want to see the end of the Russo Crime Family.”

She quirks an eyebrow, and based on the amused smile she wears, I can tell that I’m missing something. I look her over, trying to see if there’s something different about her beyond the gun at the small of her back. There are no tattoos marring her sun-kissed skin that tell me she’s taken on a new rank within the family. Her clothing is too tight to hide any sort of recording device.

At least, I think it is but I’m not taking any chances. We can’t trust each other. Not yet. Not until we’ve sat down with Jameson and outlined exactly what being an informant entails.

“I need to pat you down,” I say, closing the distance between us.

Aria chuckles and spreads her arms and legs out, her eyes shining with mischief as I start to trace my hands down her body, feeling for anything out of the normal. I take a few seconds too long going over her breasts and feeling her nipples pebble beneath my touch.

“See?” she asks, her tone cocky as she steps away. “No wire. But I’m also not going to tell you anything without knowing that I’m protected as well. I don’t mean this to be rude, Agent Wilson, but you’ve given me no reason to trust you.”

“Tyson,” I say, shifting slightly and trying to relieve some of the discomfort caused by the bulge in my jeans. “You call me Tyson. None of this Agent Wilson bullshit.”

“Sure thing, Agent Wilson. So, where do we go from here? How do we get this arrangement going and how do I make sure that you and your people don’t get me killed?”

I sigh and wonder how much I should get into without Jameson here. There’s not much she’s going to believe without seeing it in an official document. She’s smart and she doesn’t trust easily.

“It’s going to be easier to talk to you about all of this with my boss. He’s the one who is running the operation and he is the one we’re both going to be answering to.”

Aria crosses her arms and studies me for a moment. “That sounds like you already have a plan in place for how this is all going to go down.”

“We do, but like I said, it’s going to be easier for Jameson to explain it all. He’s also going to be the one with all the contracts. I don’t get into that end of things.”

Aria nods. “Fine. Where am I meeting you both and when?”

“One week from now. I’ll call the number you called me from with a location.”
