“Of me driving a car. That footage doesn’t tell you how fast I was going. Which was the legal limit, in case you’re wondering.”

“And what about the four other cars you were with?” Tyson asks, uncrossing his arms and leaning forward. “From what I saw, there were four cars and at times they were able to overtake you until you came out ahead again.”

I shrug, putting on my best innocent smile. “I’m sorry, Agent Wilson, but I don’t know what you’re talking about. I remember there being other cars on the road, but I have no clue who they were or what they were doing.”

Tyson clenches his jaw and it’s the first large sign that I’m wriggling my way beneath his skin. His composure is slipping.

As easily as his composure slipped, it slides back into place, leaving me wondering if his act was all for show.

What’s his angle?

“I’m here to offer you a deal.”

“And I’m here to tell you to go to hell,” I say, my tone sharp as I hop down from the table to approach him. I lean closer to him. “My family isn’t doing anything that would warrant the attention of the FBI. I think you should let me go now.”

“Not until you hear the deal. After that, I will release you and give you time to think about your next move before I arrest you.”

I smirk as I lean a few inches closer to him. “Promise you’ll use your handcuffs?”

“Not on someone like you,” he says, looking completely unfazed as he reaches around me to pull out a piece of paper. “And especially not with someone as young as you. You’re practically an infant.”

Even though I put on an unaffected smile, his words still cut deeper than I’d like. I’ve been called an infant or the baby of the family for my entire life. My brothers and my father still treat me like a little girl who can’t hold her own in our vicious world even though I’ve proven myself more than once.

“Here’s the deal,” Tyson says, pushing the paper closer to me. “You’re going to act as an informant for the FBI. We’re going to infiltrate your father’s secretive world and then we are going to lock him and his associates away. For your cooperation, you won’t be charged with this little racing stunt or any crimes that you have committed while with your father’s crime organization.”

“That might be a good deal, if my father was running a crime organization,” I say, pushing the piece of paper back to him. “But he’s just your normal businessman working in tech sales.”

“Consider the deal,” Tyson says as he gathers his papers and puts them back into the file. “It’s a good deal. Witness protection as well.”

“Why would I? There is nothing to consider.” I shrug, feigning nonchalance.

“Consider it, Aria. If you want to take the deal, I’ll meet you in one week at the marina. The old lobster warehouse on Pier Ten.”

“I hope you don’t plan on waiting there long,” I say as the door to the interview room opens. “You’ll rot if you sit around and wait for me.”

“We’ll see about that,” Tyson says as he waits at the door, gesturing for me to exit ahead of him. “Have a nice week, Aria. I’ll expect to see you soon. If you wish to get in contact with me before then, this is my number.”

He slips a small card into my hand as I walk out. I glance at the card before tossing it on the ground. Tyson doesn’t need to know that I memorized the number in the seconds I glanced at it.

That’s a fun little party trick for me to know and him to never find out.

I won’t be calling him.

Loyalty to the family comes first.

Anything else will get me killed.

TYSON

It’s nearly dark out when I finally get the chance to leave the station after being there since last night.

There’s an entire boardroom dedicated to the Russo family and the crimes they have committed but there are very few solid ties to anything that they’ve actually done. The FBI needs more information if we are to put Antonio Russo and his organization away for good.

That’s where Aria comes in. When my boss and I had spent weeks digging through the family, we thought that she would be the easiest one to turn against her father. She was the only daughter of a very powerful man. In most circles, that meant that she would be the most timid and eager to escape the life.

However, the Aria I met earlier today was nothing like the woman we thought she would be.
