“I need you to hang up and I need you to start running. There’s a little diner near Wallis Street called Belly’s. Get there and sit in the corner booth in the back. Keep your face hidden until I get there.”

“I’m scared,” she whispers, her voice so low that I barely hear her. “Hurry.”

“I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

I end the call and toss the phone onto the seat beside me. Her father is going to be looking for her once he realizes that she snuck away. I don’t know how she did it and that part doesn’t matter right now. I just have to get to her before he does.

When I get to the diner, I scan the area. I don’t see any of the guards or members of the Russo family. I breathe a sigh of relief as I spot Aria sitting in a booth in the back. She glances up every now and then, checking her surroundings before turning her attention back to the book in her hand.

It’s a movement so subtle that other people in the diner won’t notice what she is doing.

She’s smarter than I give her credit for.

“Hey, honey,” I say cheerfully, sliding into the seat across from her. “I would have been here sooner but you know how getting out of the office is.”

Aria closes her book and sets it to the side, giving me a bright smile. “That’s fine. I had a coffee. Are you ready to go to brunch at your mother’s?”

“Let’s go,” I say, getting up from my seat and holding my hand out for her.

Aria slips her small hand into mine. The scrap of her fingernails against my fingers as she holds my hand reminds me of the way she dragged those nails down my back.

I lead her outside and I don’t let go of her hand until I’m helping her into the car. I round to the other side quickly, getting in and starting the engine.

“Thank you,” Aria says, her voice wavering as she looks at me. “I don’t know what happened this morning, but he was insisting that I get the family tattoo and start going on runs with my brothers.”

“Did you get rid of your phone?”

“I threw it and the burner out.”

“Good,” I say as I peel away from the curb and start weaving through traffic. “I’m going to be taking you to one of the safe houses so we can figure out our next move.”

“Does this mean that I’m going into witness protection?”

I glance at her and roll my eyes at the small smile on her face. Only she would think the thought of disappearing entirely is amusing.

“Not yet. We have to come up with a plan first.”

That and I have to decide if I can trust Jameson with what is happening now.

I used to think that there would never be a time when I would question my superiors. Now, I’m starting to see that I might be wrong to trust them entirely. Especially after hearing Jameson’s plan to double-cross Aria.

“I thought you and your boss were going to be making my life miserable together,” she says brightly as I get onto the highway and floor it. Then her face goes somber. “I don’t like him. There’s something about him that you can’t trust.”

I scoff. “You know, there are people who would say that about you, too.”

Aria shrugs and shifts in her seat, tucking her legs beneath her. “I don’t doubt it at all. That’s fine, though. Youshouldn’ttrust me.”

“Oh, don’t worry. I don’t.”

She smirks at me. “You trust me enough to put your cock in my mouth.”

“Jesus, Aria, not while I’m fucking driving. Do you want to die?”

“Depends on the day,” she says, that smirk still plastered to her face. “And if it’s your hand wrapped around my neck, that might not be so bad.”

My cock hardens, straining against my jeans at her words. For someone so young, she has quite a mouth on her.

“Aria, I’m going to ask you to stop saying shit like that while I’m trying to save both of our lives, alright? You make it more than a little hard to focus on the road.”
