After her second explosive release on his couch, they’d gotten dressed and ate the dessert she’d brought. The TV was still playing and it gave them something to talk about.

Memories of watching shows and commercials from their past. Some of the places he traveled in the service, but nothing sad or depressing. Nothing about death or war that she knew he experienced.

He didn’t talk about his family and she didn’t talk about hers.

They kept it in the present as much as they could. Not even talking about the future that she knew she shouldn’t be looking at either.

He’d been clear that for the next close to six months, he’d be in the academy and gone at least twelve hours a day. He’d be around on the weekends and whatever happened did.

No way she was putting any pressure on him even if she wouldn’t mind something more herself.

She was under the blanket with the TV on when the front door opened fifteen minutes past midnight. Earlier than she thought Daisy would return.

“How was your night?” she asked her roommate.

“It was okay,” Daisy said.

“You’re back as if you left right when the ball dropped.”

“We did,” Daisy said. “He kissed me in front of his friends. As if he was showing me off. Bent me back and all, making a production of it, then winked to everyone and said that we were leaving.”

“You mean he gave the impression you were going back to his place for sex even though you told him no?”

“Yep,” Daisy said, flopping down. “I should have stayed home with you.”

“You didn’t have fun? Did he pressure you when you left?”

“No to both. He’s like a frat boy with his friends. It’s horrible. He left me alone most of the night and was acting like a college kid even though he’s twenty-nine. I’ve never seen him like that and if I had I wouldn’t have gone on another date with him. A total turn-off.”

“That does stink. Were there other women there?”

“Of course,” Daisy said. “I was left with them. Some of them have known the others for years and I was the outsider. I mean they talked to me. They had a lot of questions about my job and stuff. They thought it was great. Many loved the pieces I had on.”

Daisy didn’t make a lot of custom pieces that were sold at Blossoms, but rather pieces she did herself on her own. Heather was sure that Rose might let Daisy spread her wings at some point, but right now it was still all the designs that Rose created and Daisy made them or did adjustments and sizes.

“That’s nice,” she said.

“Yeah. But they were all more high maintenance than me. A little petty too. Like they thought the way the guys were acting was all cool or something.”

“What happened when you left?”

“Nothing. He brought me back and said Happy New Year. He didn’t even say anything about the way he acted or left me alone half the night.”

“So am I to guess there won’t be another date?”

“I don’t think so. He said he’d talk to me tomorrow, but we’ll see. I’m not reaching out to him.” Daisy sighed dramatically.

“Now you know before you slept with him.”

“Totally,” Daisy said. “I wish I did stay home now.” She pulled her heels off. “My feet are killing me on top of it. I would have rather been in sweats and under a blanket all night just like you.”

Heather kept silent to that statement. No way she was volunteering she wasn’t home and had three orgasms tonight and if she could have she would have stayed longer and had some more fun with the sexy soon-to-be state trooper.

“We can chill if you want,” she said. “It’s not like we have much going on tomorrow.”

“I think I will,” Daisy said. “I’m getting my flannel jammies on though. They didn’t even have good wine there. It shocked me. As I said, it was as if it was a frat party. I did hear someone say it was like the good old times.”

“Then maybe they were doing that,” she said. “My beer I bought earlier is in there if you want one.”
