But there was no reason to worry them or deal with the comments and stress if nothing came of the interview.

It hadn’t been a lie. She did come to Mystic with a friend. She had her interview and then spent two days visiting the area. The other interviews were done with video chats and when things were finally coming together was when she broke the news.

It wasn’t received well and she expected no differently.

Hence, the reason her brothers reached out at least weekly. Likely they took turns making sure she was fine.

“If anyone can talk her into coming here, it’s you,” Daisy said.

“We’ll see,” Ivy said. “I think the closer Jasmine gets to giving birth might make a difference. My parents won’t be here for the birth. Not sure when they will come again.”

“Where are they now?” she asked.

“Indonesia,” Ivy said. “They will be there for a few years. Thank God for the internet. I think they will try to come at Christmas next year, but who knows? I know Jasmine has all the help she will need with Wesley and Mona. It will be fine.”

“It always works out,” she said.

They got to the pub and parked. It was busy but not packed. In this small tourist town, there were only going to be locals out more than anything. And though the roads were clear and there was no snow in sight, it was still a nice balmy three degrees out.

They had to be nuts to be out, but they were young and it wasn’t like she enjoyed sitting in the house every weekend. Good thing she had a roommate...unlike Ivy.

“It’s not that horrible in here,” Daisy said. “Lots of places to sit.”

“It’s early yet,” Heather said. It was just six, not bad.

“Table for three?” the hostess asked.

“Yes, please,” Ivy said all but dancing in place.

When they got to their table, Ivy took her jacket off and her fitted purple sweater was resting right on the waist of her dark jeans. Ivy had on black UGG boots, which surprised her, but the outfit was perfect on the younger woman and still sexy in an innocent kind of way.

Their jackets were hung up on the hooks by the booth they were in, and a server came over fairly fast. Her friends ordered their wine and she got an unsweetened iced tea.

“I’m ready to stuff my face. I’ve got my stretchy jeans on. Who is with me?”

“Why do you think I wore leggings?” Daisy said. “I’m over men right now. Don’t care if I get a little belly bulge from food tonight. Ivy, Heather wants a big rich dessert for being the designated driver. Our treat.”

“Yep,” Ivy said. “Anything you want, it’s yours. I’m going to have a couple of glasses of wine and pretend I’m that couple over there. I miss dating.”

She turned her head to see the younger couple at the table leaning into each other, the guy holding the woman’s hand and looking into her eyes.

She let out a sigh. “That is sweet. But you’ve been dating.”

“I have and nothing sticks. I think this is the longest I’ve gone without being in a relationship. As Jasmine has reminded me enough, I shouldn’t depend on men to bring me happiness. But it sure is lonely.”

“I’ve had my fair share of bad dates,” Daisy said. “So yeah, I get it. It’s just not worth it at this point. That is what I tell myself. Maybe it’s best to just let it happen on its own. That is what Heather tells me all the time.”

“What?” she asked, pulling her eyes away from the loving couple.

“I told Ivy to let a man find us, not us find them,” Daisy said.

“Yeah,” she said. “Let’s do that.”

When their drinks were brought out, she picked her tea up and took a sip, waiting for their artichoke dip and pita chips to come out before their meal.

“Hey,” Ivy said. “Look who just walked in. I can’t believe Violet let Trace out of the house tonight.”

She turned her head to the door and saw Zane, Trace and Luke.
