“I did.”

“That gives him the power,” Daisy said.

“Nah,” she said. “I don’t think he sees it that way and neither do I. I didn’t want him to think I was loose or anything.”

Daisy laughed. “No one would think that looking at you.”

“He doesn’t know me well enough,” she argued. “What he knows is I dressed differently than the way most of you see me because we were at parties and I went to his hotel room with him once and then the second time I was alone with him, I did the same. It might be reasonable for him to think that.”

Which she had to reconcile with in her head too and it was frustrating on her part. But she couldn’t and wouldn’t take her actions and behavior back either.

“I suppose you’ve got a point. How are you going to be able to go about life though knowing you have to wait?”

She laughed. “The same way I went about life after I slept with him at Lily’s wedding. Only this time I know he’s close by.”

“That’s right,” Daisy said. “He’s close by. And you’ve got his number. Before you thought you’d never see him again. Easy to put from your mind. But can you now?”

Daisy had a point. “I said we could keep in touch now and again. Maybe he’ll find someone else.”

“Do you think so? He is pretty hot.”

“I don’t get the feeling he is out there looking so unless there is a woman catching his eye at the academy the chances might be slim. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds.”

“I’m not sure I could do that, but you’ve got more patience than me too.”

“It has nothing to do with patience and more to do with the fact I can’t force something.”

That is what she was telling herself at least while she counted down the days.

A Nice Gentleman

February turned to March, and March to April. Life was going by slowly in some aspects and fast in others.

Work was flying and Heather was moving on her room spray proposition along with the body sprays to have some herbal scents and healing properties.

She’d pushed some of it back from bothering the sisters because not that long ago, Lily, Poppy and Rose found out who’d hit and killed their mother when they were teens.

It’d been an unsolved mystery since it happened and the shocking twist came with Violet’s boyfriend coming to this area to not only research his book but to find out what he could about the sisters and their lives.

That Trace’s best friend and former model, Kate, had asked him to do it. Her grandfather was the one who’d hit Holly Bloom that late night while he was rushing home because his wife was suffering from what they later found out was a stroke.

Nothing was going to happen or change for the sisters other than they got some closure. But since it was an emotional time for them all, Heather put her own work aside. Or more like kept it quiet and focused on perfecting what she’d present to them.

In the past almost two months, she’d texted Luke a few times. Once she was alone and lonely and made the mistake of reaching out. He’d been alone too and they’d ended up in his bed at his house.

For someone who told herself she didn’t want a friends-with-benefits situation she felt as if that was what was happening and she had no one to blame but herself.

It was the reason she agreed to take a few days off and go home for Easter. She figured it’d pacify her parents for missing Christmas and both Noah and Gavin had the day off too.

She did miss seeing her brothers and if she stayed in town, she knew that she’d be tempted to see what Luke was doing, assuming he’d be alone.

Since she realized she wasn’t good with the boundaries she set for herself, she took the coward’s way and got the hell out of Dodge. She hated leaving Daisy, but her roommate told her to go. It was only Easter and not a big deal, so she did leave.

Her phone went off on Easter Sunday earlier than she expected it would and she rolled over to get it, then sat up quickly when she saw the group text from Lily.

“Oh my God,” she screeched. “I can’t believe I missed it.”
