“My Grandmother Jane. I loved her. We were close. I was her only granddaughter. She had four grandsons. She loved to garden and I did it with her.”

“Ahh,” he said. “That is where your love for plants came from.”

“It is,” she said. “But she’d always told me to stand up for myself too. To do what made me happy, not what other people wanted from me.”

“Like being a doctor?” he asked.

She smiled at him. “Yeah. That was never going to happen. I don’t think I’m smart enough.”

“I think you are selling yourself short.”

“Maybe I was, but I didn’t want to do it. Years and years of college. The debt with it. My parents helped us all out with the college tuition we had, but I had some small loans for room and board. They are gone now. I made sure I paid them off before I moved. Which is why I stayed home too.”

He figured she’d be responsible that way. Not having much money growing up, he’d held onto what he had with a tight fist.

Being homeless more than once as a kid was branded into his head like a horrible drunken tattoo that would never be covered up or removed. It’d always linger on his skin as a reminder of the shithole he came from.

“What made you decide to finally move?” he asked. “Just that your debt was gone?”

“No. My grandmother passed while I was in college. I always had those words in my head to do what made me happy. I just couldn’t seem to find the courage to do it. Then finally I’d had enough. At the time I was working daily in a lab for the local hospital. It was boring and suffocating to me. I wanted to be outside and work with my hands too. I can’t explain it.”

“No reason to explain what you want to do. I get it. I don’t think I could work at a desk. It’s not meant for everyone.”

“It’s not,” she said. “Anyway, I didn’t tell my parents what I was doing. They’d try to talk me out of it. After applying for the job with Blossoms, I came to Mystic with a friend on vacation. I’d set the interview up with Lily but didn’t tell them. I wanted to see how it went first. I mean it just seemed like a dream come true and a perfect fit for me. As you can tell, it went well.”

“But not telling your parents? That didn’t go well?”

“No,” she said, laughing. “They got over it.”

“Did they?” he asked. He remembered Jill Davis stating more than once that Heather was going back with them after her accident.

“My father calmed my mother down. My brothers did too. As much as they hovered over me, they are my biggest supporters too.”

“I’m glad you have that,” he said.

“Me too,” she said. “And I’m glad I’ve got you. So glad, and at peace, that I’m going to show it to you now.”

She got up from her chair and moved over to sit on his lap. They were secluded here. The only way someone could see them was if they went by on the water and were looking, but they were still under a tree at the moment so the sun wasn’t beating down on them.

“What are you going to do right here?” he asked, his arms going around her waist.

“I’m going to kiss you first,” she said, her hands on his face. “I think the only thing I’m going to do is kiss you.”

He wasn’t going to be disappointed that it could have turned into more. It’s not like he had a condom on him, but he’d go get one in the house if he had to.

His mouth opened under hers. He loved how aggressive she could get when she was in the mood for sex. She’d made comments before that she’d gone so long without and that was why, but yet he wasn’t finding that to be the case when they were alone.

His hands were on her bare thighs and inching up closer to her heat. He dipped one finger under the edge of her panties and found her wet already.

“Damn,” he said.

She pushed his hand away. “Not yet,” she said. She moved off his lap and then got on her knees in front of him on the sand. Her fingers made quick work of undoing his shorts and releasing his cock.

He was ready and always willing for some action.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Kissing you,” she said. “I didn’t say it was only going to be your mouth.”
