The Fierces didn’t know Sean well when they moved in. It was a fast love with Lucy and she got pregnant right away. Lucy wanted to be close to her parents and Sean agreed to anything like a lost little puppy needing affection.

His son hadn’t been interested in college all that much and they knew it wasn’t for him, but they’d hoped he’d change his mind. He lived his life the way he wanted but had a good job and supported his family. He couldn’t ask for more than that in life.

But he’d seen the hurt his son had time and again and he and Marci never cared for their daughter-in-law.

He’d just wished his son saw Lucy for what and who she was before Sawyer got subjected to what happened.

Now it was making it harder for them to do their job and see their grandson settled down and happy.

“No,” Marci said. “He wasn’t. Just gave people too many chances.”

“He wanted what his parents had,” Jolene said. “Nothing wrong with that either.”

Logan saw his wife of almost fifty-five years smile. “I hope he finds it someday. The same with Sawyer.”

“If we can figure out how to get Faith and him together it will work,” Gavin said. “I know it. My niece, I’ve been trying to figure out the right guy for her for years. It hit me two years ago that Sawyer would be perfect.”

“And you’re just telling me that now?” Jolene asked with her hands on her hips.

“You think you know who is right for everyone. You never come up for air so I was letting you have your way. It’s not like Faith is in a hurry and neither is Sawyer.”

“Which means now that she is the last one single it’s going to be even harder,” Jolene said. “She is onto us.”

“She is ontoyou,” Gavin said. “Not me. Remember. I started this ball rolling with Ella.”

Logan laughed, knowing that Gavin had known all along who he would have loved his daughter with. Travis McKinney was a lucky man to be chosen by Gavin, but it had taken years.

“You’re never going to let me forget. And now I’m the bad one,” Jolene said.

“What’s this?” his wife asked.

“We decided that I’m going to hound Faith,” Jolene said.

“Like you’ve been doing for years anyway,” Gavin said.

“That’s right. And Gavin gets to come in on his white horse and befriend Faith. Let her know he’s in her corner. But you wait until it’s all done. I hope you own up to what you did.”

Gavin laughed. “We’ll see how it goes. First you need to keep annoying her like you did today and let me be the good guy.”

“If you’re so good,” he said, “how are we getting these two together?”

“I’m still trying to figure that out,” Gavin said. “I dropped Sawyer’s name and she had no reaction, just like I figured. She’s not ready.”

“I think the bigger issue is going to be that dog of Faith’s,” Jolene said. “Fred doesn’t let anyone near her. Most are probably afraid.”

“No worries there,” Marci said. “Sawyer almost became one of the K-9 officers. He’d have to move for it though to have the dog and since he wanted to be a detective, decided to not get attached. He’ll be fine with a dog.”

“Why am I just hearing this now?” Jolene asked.

“I knew,” Gavin said. “I’ve known for two years when Logan and I started to talk about this. You don’t think I wouldn’t cover all my bases, do you?”

Logan laughed when he saw Jolene frown at her husband. The same expression his wife gave him all the time too.

Yeah, he wanted this for his grandson and with the help of the Fierces, he was going to get it.
