She wasn’t going to bug him anymore; she knew he was probably in his office working. She’d seen pictures and notes and evidence all over some boards. Just like on TV that he picked on her about. He’d told her those were copies so that he could look at things when they came to him.

When she was getting ready for bed later that night, she walked out of the bathroom and found Fred up by the pillow on the other side, his head on the second shirt. Fred never slept up there; he was always on the bottom.

She wasn’t sure if she just made matters worse or not, but they’d find out tomorrow.

Get Her Again

“It’s a little chilly out today,” Sawyer said to Faith when he went to pick her up at one on Saturday.

He was barely in the door before Fred came charging him like never before. “Whoa,” she said. “Fred, heel.”

The big dog almost skidded to a halt and sat his furry butt down, his body vibrating with excitement. “Hey there, Fred,” he said, getting down on one knee. Fred took that as a sign to jump on him, but he was braced and didn’t get knocked over by the close to one hundred-pound dog.

“I think the shirt thing didn’t work the way I planned.”

“Only one way to find out,” he said after giving the dog some extra attention and standing up. He pulled Faith close to him, his mouth going to hers, the dog not making a sound.

“It’s working,” she said. His hands slid under her shirt and up her back. She started to squirm and he knew it was because his fingers were cold.

“No barking,” he said. “Good plan.”

“We’ll see how good of a plan it is tonight when you stay. You are staying, right?”

“If you want me to,” he said. “I’ve got my bag in the SUV.”

“Yes,” she said. “I do want you to.”

“Good,” he said. “Bundle up if we are taking Fred to the park.”

“Did you get your run in this morning?” she asked.

“I did. There is a gym in another building at my complex. I ran on the treadmill there. It was raining earlier when I would have wanted to go out.”

“Were you afraid you were going to melt?” she asked, grabbing her jacket. She pulled some gloves on too. It was high forties out today and the sun was shining now.

She looked so adorable in her brown fleece jacket hitting her thighs over stretchy jeans and sneakers. She grabbed a headband and put it around her ears, keeping her hair out of her face too.

She didn’t have much makeup on, more natural looking. He was always drawn to that. Maybe because his mother had a heavy hand with products on her face.

“Hardly that,” he said. “I can’t tell you the number of times I’m out in the rain working.”

“I’m sure,” she said. “Though I should tell you that I do melt so if it was going to rain, we wouldn’t be going, but I appreciate you wanting to take Fred.”

“Might as well tire him out. Doesn’t he normally get walks like this on the weekend?”

“He does,” she said. “In nicer weather or when there is more daylight, I take him during the week after work. This time of year though, I don’t as much.”

“As you shouldn’t if it’s dark out,” he said. The thought of her out at night alone bothered him.

Though he shouldn’t be worried because Fred wouldn’t let anything happen to her and anyone that got near the dog would be crazy anyway.

“Let’s get your harness on, Fred.” She grabbed the red harness out of the closet, put it on Fred and then handed Sawyer the leash. “Are you sure?”

“Positive. It seems he’s fine with me, so I might as well walk him too. Who knows, maybe someday I can take him running with me. Do you think he’d be okay with that?”

“Depends on how long you run. With his bulk and hair, I’m not sure how long he could last.”
