“Sorry Kyra, I have to deal with them,” says Nova, slipping away to greet them.

Sighing, I know she’s going to be too busy for me to get another word in with her. I leave the tavern and make way for the healer, desperate to get confirmation of my pregnancy.

Some time later, I’m sitting in a chair, nervously twiddling my thumbs as I wait for the healer to come into the room. There’s a pleasant smell of floral aromas coming from the various herbs sitting in medicinal jars lining the shelves. Sitting on the wall are sets of posters explaining the anatomy for all the different races of Protheka, except for dark elves.

It has me wondering if they would even treat a dark elf citizen who needed emergency healthcare. At that moment, the door opens, inward strolling the healer.

“Hello,” she greets, taking a seat across from me. “I have your results.”

Crossing my fingers, I take a deep breath before looking her in the eye.

“I’m ready, tell me the news.”

“Well… congratulations, you are indeed pregnant!”

I smile and gasp in disbelief, throwing my hands up to cover my mouth.

“Wow, I’m shocked… I have a question though. You see, the father is a minotaur.”

“Uh huh,” mutters the healer, nodding along.

“I learned from a friend that carrying a minotaur baby breaks an Indenture contract, is that really true?”

“Indeed it is,” says the healer. “I actually have the paperwork in here somewhere if you’re looking to void the contract.”

“Yes please,” I say thankfully.

“So we’ll need my signature, yours, and the father’s as well.”

“Wait, what?” I ask, my newfound joy suddenly stripped away.

“We need three signatures, you see. One of those has to belong to the father. My office is open all day if you wish to return later on with him.”

“Right,” I say, trying not to show my disappointment. “I’ll do just that then.”

“Not a problem. I’ll see you later on.”

I leave the healer’s shop running a hand over my hair. My freedom was only inches away, so close I could almost taste it.

“Damn it,” I groan.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in…

“There’s no way I can get Mosar to sign the paperwork for me… I guess this leaves me no choice.”

Swallowing my pride, I turn and head in the direction of Zy’s house, silently praying to the gods that he’ll forgive me.

Iwake up with a groggy head, rubbing it as I hoist myself up against the bed frame. I didn’t really sleep after Kyra dropped me like I was a piece of trash. I have a feeling nights like these are going to become the norm for me.

“My fucking head, why does it hurt so damn much?” I ask myself. Looking around, I quickly spot the cause. Strewn all across the floor were empty bottles of ale. I had turned to alcohol as a method of helping me sleep.

Cursing, I rise from my bed. A wave of dizziness overcomes me as I stand, no doubt from the amount I drank. Shaking it off, I begin disposing of the bottles and cleaning up the place. When all is done, I climb into a hot bath.

Letting out a long sigh, I submerge my body into the warm water, bringing it up to my neck. Slowly, my body starts to relax and decompress as I look at the clock on the wall. Seeing that I don’t have a lot of time before work, I immediately become pissed off.
