“Don’t call your son that,” she laughs. “Just get rid of that hazardous waste and I’ll be out with him in a moment.”

Covering my nose with my shirt, I throw his diaper in the bin before wiping the tears from my eyes.

By the gods, I’ve never felt so repulsed in my life!

A few minutes later, Kyra re-emerges from the bathroom carrying Traisius who wears a content smile upon his face.

“Ready to go then?” I ask, shooting a judging look at our son.

“Sure, and stop that!”

As we leave the house, Kyra places Traisius down. We each take a hand of his as he fumbles his legs around, taking small steps when he can manage. Passers-by give loving looks to him as he waves at them.

“I hear the park has opened up a new playground for children,” I say. “Maybe we ought to head there.”

“Won’t it be a bit dangerous for Traisius?” asks Kyra.

“We’ll be there with him, don’t worry.”

After spending a few minutes helping our son walk through the streets, Kyra hoists him up on her shoulder. For the rest of the journey, Traisius slips into a nap. Only when we arrive at the park, he wakes up as if on cue.

He looks around in wonder at the sight of the park, seeing lush green fields of grass in the distance and lamp posts that must seem like towers to him. He then looks to the other children running around and enjoying the nearby playground.

“Ah!” he exclaims, pointing to it.

“You want to go play now?” I ask, picking him up. “Let’s go then.”

I bring him over to a swing set. He settles nicely into the baby seat, peering up at me with glee as I move behind him. On his initial push, he tenses up, gripping the seat with fear but soon bursts out into laughter. I keep the swings small and gentle, overcome with joy at the sound of his innocent laughter.

Picking him up, I glance over to Kyra who admires us with looks of love in her beautiful brown eyes. She lays on the blanket, snacking on some fruit as I bring our son over to a slide. Placing him on top of it, I gently push, keeping my hands close to his body as he yelps in delight.

Deciding that’s enough to introduce him to, I bring him over to his mother. As I take a seat, Traisius crawls out and lays down between us. I pick out some nimond beans, feeding them to my lover. When Traisius isn’t looking, she takes my thumb into her mouth and licks it suggestively.

It’sthe end of the day. I’m rocking Traisius back and forth in my arms, singing softly into his ears as he slowly slips into a deep slumber. His breaths become deeper, his eyes eventually closing. Carefully, I place him into his cot. Leaning back, I peer down at him with love as Kyra joins me.

“You know, all things considered with how we got our start together, I think you and I did pretty well,” she whispers.

“Of course we did. I know we had the shakiest of starts but that’s all in the past now. You and I have always made the best team.”

We retreat to the bed. There, we slip under the covers where I wrap an arm around her. Her body on mine feels better than any blanket ever could.

“Thanks for never giving up on me Zy, even when I gave you every reason to.”

“I could never have done it in the end. A life without you isn’t a life I ever want to experience.”

“Same here Zy,” she says, kissing my chest. “This all seemed impossible to me one year ago, yet now here I am, living with the love of my life and raising a child with him.”

“Thanks for being my best friend Kyra.”

She rests her chin on my chest, gazing at me with nothing but love in her eyes.

“I couldn’t be any happier than I am right now. I feel on top of the world.”

“I know a way you could feel better,” I whisper.

“Oh yeah?” she asks. From her expression, she seemingly knows what I’m implying. “What might that be?”
