Page 10 of Brass's Surrender

“Like I allowed someone to get the best of me.” Total embarrassment for sure.

Reap nods and sits on the edge of the bed, “You know you’re fucked now. They’re not gonna let you go without telling them something.”

“And that’s where you come in, I suppose?” I quirk a brow.

“Not if I want to end up fighting them, and you know I’m an ally of theirs.”

I did, which makes this all the much harder. Why did everything have to become so damn complicated? Seriously, why? Damnit.

“So, what the hell do you suggest I do?” There’s no way I was going to let them in on this job. Knowing they’ve all probably got He-Man ways, I’m willing to bet they’d try to keep me from finishing what I started.

Reap opens his mouth to say something, but the door opens and, lo and behold, in walks a pissed off Brass. I can tell from the way his muscles bunch and his nostrils flare. The most telling sign would be the fact his eyes are darker than normal and he looks ready to kill.

Brass looks between Reap and me, his jaw ticking. “You mind giving us a minute?”

It might have sounded like a request, but I know it wasn’t. Not with the harsh tone of his voice. Oh, he’s pissed, that’s for sure.

“Not happenin’,” Reap grunts, not budging.

In fact he looks far more comfortable and not at all tense. But that’s just the way he is.

“Reap,” I mutter, not about to have him get into it right now with Brass, I get his attention. “You don’t have to babysit me. I can handle him.”

Reap snorts and shakes his head. “Maybe so, but Lucifer will have my ass if I leave you alone right now.”

Great.

“I’ll be speaking to Thea without you in here, so I suggest you get the fuck out before I throw you out.”

Oh boy.

Fire nearly spills from Brass’s nostrils, and the way he’s glaring is enough to know he means business.

Reap stands and gets in Brass’s space. “I’d like to see you try, asshole. I’m not about to leave her alone in a room with you. For all I know you could have been one of the bastards who hurt her when she was still a kid.”

Oh. My. God.

Reap did not just go there.

I clamber out of the bed and go to jump between them, but I’m too late. Brass swings, nailing Reap in jaw.

Reap throws a fist, hitting Brass. I try getting in the middle, but somehow, even not looking in my direction, Brass pushes me out of it. I scream at the two of them and they don’t listen.

The door busts open and more men come rushing through, three pulling Brass away, and three doing the same with Reap.

“What the fuck is going on in here?” Twister demands.

“Two buffoons decided to throw punches like the idiots they are,” I answer snappily, planting one hand on my hip, the other pointing at Reap and Brass. “The two of you can quit with the He-Man act. My head is hurting, and I don’t need to deal with this shit. I mean, seriously?” Meeting Brass’s glare, I roll mine. “I haven’t seen you in years, and you think my brother is going to sit by and let you be alone with me?” Turning my attention to Reap. “And you stop being an ass and talking about things that shouldn’t be said.” I switch my attention to the others. “Now, if you’ll all excuse us, Reap will take me home.”

“You’re not going anywhere,” Brass declares.

“Oh yes, I am,” I snap, straightening. “You can’t keep me here.”

“You were nearly kidnapped.” Shrugging off his brothers’ grips on him, he steps toward me.

“And as appreciative of the help you lent in keeping that from happening, I would have gotten free.”

“Yeah? When? After they raped and tormented you?”
