Turning my full attention to Athena, I block everyone else out, including Reap. I step fully into her space, bend, wrap an arm around her legs and straighten, taking her with me. It’s time for us to have some privacy and for me to find out what the fuck she has gotten herself into.

“Brass.” Athena gasps, going over my shoulder. “What are you doing?”

I ignore her and turn to Reap. “You can go now.” With that, I start toward my room with a woman shouting over my shoulder, her tiny fist slamming into my back.

CHAPTER8

ATHENA

The nerve of this man. I’m going to end up killing him when all this is said and done.

“Put me down, Brass,” I snap, slamming my fist against his lower back once more, to no avail.

Brass seems to be good at ignoring this demand. Just like he’s ignored my demand to go home. I don’t need or want to be here.

Why did they have to bring me here? Couldn’t they have taken me anywhere else?

I kick my legs and wiggle, hoping that he’ll loosen his hold enough for me to get away, but he doesn’t. Instead, he surprises me.

“Settle down,” he commands, swatting my ass.

The whole thing has me going still, and I’m not sure why, other than he’d just spanked me. It shouldn’t have phased me, but it did, and it’s hard to ignore the wetness between my legs, the very thought of him doing more causes.

A moment later, Brass turns, opens a door, steps in, and uses his foot to slam it shut behind us. Stepping farther into the room, I find myself whirling backward then bouncing on a plush comfortable mattress. Too bad I don’t take more time to lay on it. Instead, I flip myself off the other side and face off with Brass.

“What do you think you’re doing?” I demand, trying to keep my thoughts away from the fact I’m alone in Brass’s roomwithBrass. And a bed.

Damnit.

“We’re gonna get a few things worked out,” Brass announces, crossing those arms of his, making himself look bigger than he already is.

“There’s nothing to work out,” I huff, tired of repeating myself.

“Bullshit,” he snarls, leveling me with a glare I’m sure has had men shaking in their boots. If I weren’t used to intimidating men, I would probably be scared myself. “There’s a lot for us to discuss.” He takes a moment to simply stare at me before nodding. At what, I’m not sure, but something in him changes. “First, though, I’m gonna give you a shirt, you’re gonna change, get in bed, then we’ll talk. Once we get some sleep, we’re gonna talk some more. Later, after we’ve both gotten some rest, we’re gonna talk some more.”

Great.

Talk. Talk. Talk. Talk.

Just want I want to do.

Talk.

Yay me. Not.

“There’s nothing for us to talk about.” I plant my hands on my hips, taking a stance. I’m not about to let him get to me.

Well, I’m not about to let him see that he’s getting to me.

Nope.

No way.

I learned a long time ago that showing any form of emotion or turmoil when dealing with a situation would get you in trouble. Like the night . . . I shut the thought down before it even gets the chance to finish forming.

“There’s plenty for us to talk about, Thea, and we’ll be talking about everything, but first off, you’re gonna change and get ready for bed. Then I’ll ask you two questions. After you answer them honestly, I’ll let you get some sleep.” Moving to his dresser, Brass opened the second draw and pulls out a black tee with the club’s logo on it. He tosses it my way, and I catch it on reflex, pulling it to me without looking. I stare at him, holding his gaze as he toes his boots off. “You can change there or in the bathroom.”

I glance at the open doorway, realizing it’s the bathroom. “I’ll change in there.”
