“Guess you aren’t up for a round two?” he smirks.

“I’m always up for a round two,” I reply, making him laugh.

“Good. Because I still want to bend you over and watch that perfect ass bounce.”

Ask, and you shall receive because that’s exactly what happened next. There wasn’t a single place left untouched in my bedroom. Chance pleased me throughout the night, leaving me with very little sleep; however, I didn’t have a single complaint. I got to feel his arms around me as I drifted off to sleep. The perfect ending to a perfect night.

Chapter Seven

CHANCE

When the alarm on my phone went off, it had taken everything in me to leave Ashlynn’s bed. I wanted to stay right there and never leave. But Ashylnn wasn’t having that. She harped about how important it was to show up to work on time and told me that if I went on time, I could come over tonight.

So here I am at this shitty ass job, baking in the sun and miserable. I keep reminding myself that I’m doing this to prove to Ashlynn that I can be a good worker and not because I’ll go back to prison. Honestly, they’re both good reasons to keep my nose clean.

I didn’t think I’d be given a second chance with Ashylnn in any form. I know I’m thinking ahead of myself by thinking about us getting back together; however, I can’t help it. It’s what I want more than anything in this world. To rebuild what we had.

“Hey, Daydreamer! You going to work today?” Oscar Loretto, one of my asshole coworkers, yells.

He’s been on my case since day one. He thinks he knows everything and tries to boss everyone around when the real bosses aren’t looking. I’ve bitten my tongue so far, but I know it won’t be long until I lose it on him.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” I mutter.

“How about you go direct traffic for a while?”

“What? Why the fuck would I want to do that boring ass job,” I growl.

My supervisor, Mike, hears us and walks over. He has a clipboard in his hand, and he looks annoyed.

“What’s going on now with you two?” Mike asks.

“I’m good,” I reply.

“He’s slacking off again. I told him to go direct traffic since he has nothing better to do,” Oscar says, pointing towards the road with bumper-to-bumper traffic.

“Chill out, Loretto. I’m not in the mood today,” Mike replies, catching us both off guard. Usually, he takes Oscar’s side.

“But–” Oscar retorts.

“Do you even know who you are messing with?” Mike points at me. “You have no clue who he is, do you?”

Mike’s words have gained the attention of several of the other guys. They’re now looking at us.

“He’s just some kid who got into some trouble, and now we have to hold his hand for the next six months,” Oscar replies.

“I’m telling you now, you want to watch how you talk to him,” Mike pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs. “Is there a particular job you want to do, DeLuca? Name it, and it’s yours.”

We all look at Mike as though he’s lost his damn mind. What the hell has gotten into him? He’s always treated me like the other guys. There’s been no special treatment, so why now. Unless…

“Did you get a phone call?” I groan.

“I’m not at liberty to say. I just need to make sure you’re taken care of.” He looks me in the eyes. There’s fear in them.

“Don’t worry about that call. I’ll take care of it.”

“What call? What’s going on, Boss? You being threatened?” Oscar asks.

Those nearby walk over to see what the problem is. I can’t blame them. They all respect Mike, so it’s only natural they want to protect him; however, they have no idea who they’re up against.
