“Anything.”

“I’ll keep that in mind when I’m in the market for my second home. It’ll be something on a lake andveryexpensive. So you better start saving now.”

She’s joking, but I’m not. If she’s asking, I’m buying.

We clean up our pizza mess, and I call for her cab. It arrives in record time and I walk her out just to extend the time we have together.

Ireallydon’t want this night to end.

“You’ll be back tomorrow?” I ask, and I don’t care that I sound needy.

She nods. “The vomit wall is my number one priority for tomorrow.”

“What about the other project?”

“It’ll have to wait. Like I said…” She pokes me with her index finger. “Priority number one right here.”

I grab her finger and hold it against my chest. “Appreciate it.”

She smiles up at me. “It’s a shame you don’t date. This could’ve been a halfway decent one.”

And she’s right. It would’ve been. And if this had been a date, this would be the moment I lean in and kiss her. But it’s not a date, and I can’t kiss her. Can I?

My gaze darts to her lips – soft, plump, full – and then back up to her face.

No. I can’t.

We’re effectively co-workers, and I don’t want to upset the tentative balance we’ve thankfully managed to restore tonight.

I drop her finger and she makes an irritated sound that comes from the very depths of her throat. “Stop looking at me like that.”

“Like what?”

“Like you’re trying to come up with more excuses not to kiss me right now.”

“Okay.” Disappointment flashes in her eyes and she takes a small step backward. I close the new space between us immediately. “Okay,” I say again, my voice low. “I’ll stop coming up with excuses.”

AMBER

Finn’s handscome up to ghost over my jaw, threading his fingers in the hair at the nape of my neck. I get precisely half a second of warning before his lips are on mine and I melt into his touch.

Finn kisses the same way he does everything — like he’s got something to prove. His fingers tilt my head back as he slants over my mouth and peppers me with soft, insistent kisses. He’s not forceful with it — in fact, he’s surprisingly gentle. But there’s a fiery intensity behind each kiss that sends shockwaves pooling in the pit of my stomach. It feels like he’s claiming me. Like he’s leaving marks on my lips that only he can see.

I don’t mind.

I can’t get enough of him. If kissing Finn is the only thing I do for the rest of my life, I’d die happy and content.

I step forward and press my body as close to his as I can, idly acknowledging how good the rigid plains of his muscles feel against my softer curves. I snake my arms around his neck and eagerly meet each and every kiss with just as much fervour.

Kissing Finn feels like coming home. It feels good. It feelsright. Standing here, his arms tightly around me, his lips gently caressing mine, feels like something we’ve done a million times before and we’ll do a million times more.

He groans, his lips parting just a little more, and I take the opportunity to slip inside. His entire body seems to vibrate with pleasure when our tongues meet, and I grin into the kiss. The fingers currently gripping the back of my hair skitter downward, and I shiver against him as his hands run down the length of my back to cup my ass. He pulls our lower bodies flush against each other and I’m greeted with a thick hardness straining against the confines of his trousers.

He pulls back for a second — to catch his breath, to say something, I’m not sure — and the brief absence of his lips on mine irritates me. I surge forward, recapturing them. He takes it in his stride, effortlessly flipping us around so my back is against the door. His hand drops from my ass and both arms come up to cage me in. I bring a leg up to wrap around his waist and—

The taxi driver honks impatiently and we both freeze.
